I guess you guys have heard about this for sometime now and it's now in the news lately that an Israeli airstrike on Iran's nuclear facilities may be imminent or could
happen before the end of the 2008. With all the dire news and down-the-dumps economic climate, what are your thoughts and concerns about this very worrysome
developments? Let's hear your thoughts...

Re: Israeli airstrike on Iran's nuke facilities..

The problem with this, even if the air strike is effective, is what happens next. When Israel hit Iraq and Syria for the same reason, they took their lumps and did nothing. Are we certain that the nut cases in charge in Iran will do the same?Or will they get their Lebanese and other proxies to hit back, not only at Israel, but also at Israeli and U.S. "interests" elsewhere in the world.

I think that a far better approach would be to destabilize the mullah's regime in Iran by arming and unleashing the opposition, thereby stimulating an internal revolution. Why we haven't done this after all of the anti-U.S. Iranian meddling in Iraq and Afghanistan is beyond me.

Boy, talk about opening a can of worms. And I thought I was good at that.

Short ‘n sweet ... and I admit, this is a worst-case scenario ...

If Israel attacks Iran, the fallout will more than ripple around the world: It’ll slam into global economics like a tsunami.

• Iran would likely retaliate in the Gulf, disrupting oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and/or destroy Qatar’s off-shore gas facilities.

• Oil would consequently soar to $300 a barrel—or more. Gas in the USA would spike to $12 a gallon.

• Prohibitively high gas prices would trigger dire economic consequences, especially within American low and middle class communities, eventuating in the wholesale collapse of businesses nation wide. The financial effect on families alone would be catastrophic.

• Such an attack would inflame Arabs’ burgeoning hatred toward Israel and America. Al Qaeda, the Taliban and like groups would burst at the seams with infuriated recruits. The resultant power these evil fanatics would wield against American and Israeli interests is almost too grim to consider.

• Israel would face possible massive Hezbollah retaliation in Lebanon, which, according to experts, would seriously tax Israel’s ability to respond. Keep in mind that Hezbollah actually achieved its deterrent capacity following the July 2006 War—some say as early as 2000—when it forced Israel out of most of Lebanon. Israel is no longer able to attack Lebanon with impunity.

• America would be forced to open a "third front," which, according to Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, would pose a “challenge” for the US military already stretched thin with thousands of troops committed to fighting insurgencies in Afghanistan and Iraq. The expenditure of men and material and treasure to successfully prosecute this "third front" would strain our military forces to, and possibly beyond, the breaking point.

On the other hand ...

Iran is morphing into a modern-day Third Reich bent on destroying Israel by any means possible. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sworn repeatedly that the Jewish State must be exterminated utterly, and that he and his henchmen are only too willing to pull the trigger.

That leaves Israel with few options: Either allow Iran to grow their nuclear weapons capabilities to fruition and suffer the consequences, or cut the heart out of it now before it’s too late.

Personally, I think we’re in for one hell of a fireball. I realize this sounds pessimistic in the extreme, and perhaps it is; but within two years our lives will change in ways we never imagined. Time to stock up on your food supply, boys and girls. The show’s about to begin.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Glad to hear that. Of course, the end may not be near also, but I gotta think it is coming sometime soon (but than again, maybe not.....)

You know we're going to get some flak for these comments, but oh well........

Re: Israeli airstrike on Iran's nuke facilities..

I think it could probably happen after the summer Olympics but before the US election forcing Obama and McCain to buy in.

Maybe this is why there hasn't been a raid on Irans munition factories which I think is justified.

Already hearing the leaks about Israeli training flights and plans being drawn up.

Leak scheak. At this level of importance, nothing is accidental. The Olympics are a consideration? Really? I'm betting Israel will do whatever they want despite whatever. I say get 'em and own the region or scrap it all together and drill in Alaska and in the ocean but I want some radical, extreme decision. None of this diplomacy crap. The under 40 generation needs a significant life changing event to give it identity. I don't want to grill out and swim tomorrow anyway. Let's get it on!
