Opinions needed on various Spits

I'm thinking of adding a larger scale Spitfire to my collection in the next few weeks (1/48 or 1/32). My question is which is better for the price; 1/48 HM Spit or the 1/32 Corgi Spit? How nice are either of these? Is there another option available for a high quality larger scale Spitfire?

Diehard Forces of Valor critics will take issue with this, bunowbe, but the two 1/32 FOV Spits I own are truly exceptional. The main concern seems to be fuselage rivets, which, I believe, didn’t exist on the real bird. Aside from that the model captures the look and feel of an honest-go-goodness, hell-for-leather Spitfire. If you can get a close gander at one, you’ll see what I mean.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

I picked up the 21st Century 1/32 spit last night. It is a Mk l/ll from 1941 and the mount of William Dunn. I t looks very good with some slight paint scratch and glue showing, nothing I cannot fix and detail. Could not pass it up for $15.00.

I vote for Hobby Master. The pilot could look a lot better, but great 1/48 scale Spits. Lot's of metal, retractable gear and great detail. I have each one from the line so far in my collection.

Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

I can't give an opinion on the 1:32nd planes since I don't have them, but my 1:48 HM Spit is a fine model in all respects.I consider the Mk XIV to be one of the most attractive of WW I I fighter aircraft, and HM does it justice. Look at it for a while and wonder why folks keep raving about the Mustang,IMHO........

Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

Brunowbe... I think you are on the right track, with the HM 1:48 Spit and the 1:32 Corgi Spit. I have two each of these models and highly recommend them. The Corgi Spits are getting harder to find at low prices... but I think well worth the cost. I think you can still get a decent deal at Perry's. Of course, the HM Spits are a terrific value and I wouldn't pass them up.

Wink Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

I think you need both a 1/32 Corgi Spitfire and the 1/48 HM Spitfire. The reasons are simple: both are great diecasts and they represent the Merlin powered variant in 1/32 and the Griffon powered variant in 1/48. Completely different aircraft, both make impressive models in their own right. Immediately apparent is the props in the front and the tails at the back.

Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

Thanks for all of your input. I am going to avoid the Forces of Valor Spit, I've seen them and other birds made by FOV and I'm just going to avoid them (personal choice) with better offerings available. I believe I am going to go with the 1/48 HM Spit flown by Newberry (even though I thought about holding out for a clipped wing version) and get a Gemini Aces Spit to cover the earlier versions (Mk.IX). I've already got the Gentile Spit Flying Mule exclusive, but wanted a larger one. The Corgi 1/32 Spits are nice and I would really like to get a Deere Kiwi Spit, but the price tag is just too great, especially when adding in the shipping costs of the only game in town where one is available. If I can find a Corgi 1/32 Spit for cheaper (pilot and markings do not matter or if it's working range since there's been some of those going for cheap, should've got that one on Ebay for $69 BIN, at least a fellow forum member snagged it), I will go that route. Thanks a bunch fellas.

Re: Opinions needed on various Spits

The Newberry Spit WILL impress you! Plenty of color, and looks super sitting along side a C1 Dora as a comparison with another beautiful fighter!
