| Thank you for the info guys. I could not find the original posts on this subject so I have made this new thread. I asked for the members help in finding books firstly on the P40 and then on the pilots that flew them. I was overwhelmed by the response from the members and I compiled a list of books to seek out and read. I wanted to post this info so that you would know that I took your advice and have so far purchased and read the following books. Black Sheep One, Doomed at the start, God is my co-pilot, Into the teeth of the Tiger. Black Sheep One the story of the fascinating and sometimes outrageous character of Pappy Boyington. What a man, what a life, that guy did it all. He had many personal problems but his courage in battle was unquestionable. I think Pappy was one of a kind, his life was just one long roller coaster ride. This book is a first class read even for those people who have no interest in aviation. Rating 10/10 Doomed at the start had me riveted from the first page, its a book that has everything from the tragic to the heroic. If only, if only was the words that ran through my mind. If only re-enforcements could have been sent, if only the resources available could have been used better, if only. Its far too complex to go into on this thread but I would recommend this book to anyone that has not as yet had the opportunity to read it. However be warned, once you start reading this book its almost impossible to put down. Rating 10/10 Into the teeth of the Tiger and God is my co-pilot make a great pairing for an old P40 enthusiast like myself. I particularly liked the style of writing used in these books. Its written in the language of the time and all the better for it. Rating 10/10 for both. I have tried to keep this post short so as not to bore you all with my opinions, I know many of you will have read these books anyway and I hope you enjoyed them as much as me. Once again thank you all for your help. I shall continue to work my way through the list . | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thank you for the info guys. Jim, Two more that are pretty good are Bloody Shambles volumes 1&2 by Christopher Shores and Brian Cull. Both make for a fantastic read and since you liked Doomed at the Start, might just find these to be just as good. These volumes cover air operations over South East Asian from Decembe 1941 through April 1942. | |||||||||||||

Thanks CC, I have put those on my list. I thought that Doomed at the start was a masterpiece of research by the author. | ||||||||||||||
