Re: My worst fear came true........

The only way I have found to be effecient on both ends of transactions is to ship international priority. It is a bit more on the buyers end, but you usually have a greater range of size for it, and it also seems to get through customs better. Just my two cents from sending packages to notoriously bad postal regions like Greece, Malta, and some of the former Eastern Bloc countries. Never had a problem going to Asia or SEA.

What he said -- I require Priority for international purchases or for the buyer to assume all risks. So far, no problems with priority.... knocks on wood.

I do a bit of selling on eBay, but for the most part only ship to addresses in the States, as far as buying goes, pretty much do the same.

Re: My worst fear came true........

I got this latest message from the seller with the following offers:

"Ok, I am home today sick and was thinking this over, we did make an error on the shipping, still not our fault they completely mistreated the item, and there is not difference in how it gets to you as far as on our end with the two services, but it seems there is a difference in your country. I will either give you a $40.00 refund or ship you a replacement Priority Mail for $25.00. Let me know."

I am not sure which is a better option for me now, i.e. to escalate the case for PayPal to evaluate or to consider one of the two offers. The $40 refund would mean I paid $48 for a defective item. The $25 for a new one is tempting as it would mean I only spent effectively $25 for the defective one but I think I will not be able to take it if it arrives in the same condition.

Any advice for me? Thanks.

Re: My worst fear came true........

I just received the following information. Think this is what PappyB was referring to.

"Ordinary — i.e., uninsured — Priority Mail International parcels include indemnity coverage against loss, damage, or rifling up to the amounts shown in Exhibit 234.4. Indemnity is limited to the lesser of the actual value of the contents or the maximum indemnity based on the weight of the article. If the parcel has been delivered to the addressee, payment for damage and missing contents is made to the addressee unless the addressee waives payment, in writing, in favor of the sender."

To me, this is a key difference between Priority Mail and First Class. Insurance is to provide coverage higher than the indemnity limits. As this is my first such experience, I am more inclined to let PayPal, a neutral third party, looks into the case. It will be fairer to both the seller and I.

Re: My worst fear came true........

Valkyrie,
sorry to hear about your plane. I've had the same thing happen to me except for it was the Corgi SB Liberator and Rhodesia Lanc.....so I feel your pain!! Hopefully the seller reconsiders further and offers you better in compensation. One positive experience I had with an Ebay seller (Choate76), he sent me a completely new model at no extra cost and let me keep the model which was only missing an engine cowling.

Re: My worst fear came true........

Hi Trex, the best offer I get from the seller is either to a refund of $40 or to have a new one shipped by PMI with insurance at $25. I am not sure what rights I have as a eBay buyer to request for a better compensation. Really at a dilemma on what to do. But thanks for understanding what I am going through now.

Re: My worst fear came true........

Greetings valkyrie,

If this were me, I'd take it to PayPal. You got a model that was not properly packaged for shipping, and the seller sent it via a cheaper method of shipping than the one you specified (and paid for). And, his proposed "solutions" are aimed at trying to get even more money out of you. Sounds to me like this guy is either completely ignorant when it comes to shipping packages, or he is out to rip you (and others) off. You've tried to deal with him, and it sounds like he is not interested in making this right.
Again, if it were me, I'd file a complaint with PayPal. Let the dealer hash it out with them.

Re: My worst fear came true........

Hi Rush, the seller had earlier shared that I would at most get a $10 credit from PayPal for such case and that the process will take a month to resolve. This is my first such experience so I am not sure what I will be in for.
