| Re: detolf owners -- help needed Pappy I had the same problem, I was quoted up to £60 for just 4 shelves for my Detolf. After trying several local glass shops I went to a big industrial glass merchants and got them for £18. I think you have to shop around a little. Small places seem to charge ridiculously high prices. | |||||||||||||

| Re: detolf owners -- help needed Two main points: For the size of shelf inside a Detolf and the weight you are going to expose it to, you do not need "special" glass, ordinary 4mm float glass (as it is known in UK) is perfectly safe, just get the edges cleaned up so they don't cut you. I should know, before I made my own cabinets, I modified 20 Detolfs. You cannot cut the Detolf glass, it is toughened, that may be why you are being charged so much for your shelves (If you have asked for the same glass). The process requires that the glass is cut to size, then toughened individually, it cannot be cut after the process. This means that your local glass guy has to order the pieces, not cut them at his own shop. Any other info - let me know... Horrido! | |||||||||||||

Paps that price is ridiculous! I got shelves for my cabinet made (roughly 36x14.5) in 1/4" glass for $25 a shelf at a glass place. First rate quality too!

Far more kilos than you have room to display upon it. If you feel you must know the definitive amount (though I have to wonder why anyone would) place bricks on one until it breaks......... Horrido!

| Re: detolf owners -- help needed
Good to know -- I'll keep searching.... though I want 3/8 glass as I plan to put FM jets on 'em and only have those shelf pegs to hold them up -- no support arms.

| Re: detolf owners -- help needed
Thanks, but actually the shelves I want are not for the Detolf (man those would be perfect if they just had one more shelf.... ). I need these big shelves to add to a bookcase in my office -- 35x12... Good to know about the detolf glass though
