Re: Anticipating May tax refund to buy airplanes...not so fast!

I'm amazed that we received our check right on time. Of course it's already earmarked, for the new house. What bothers me more than anything is the fact that it doesn't matter who runs the country, be it Republican or Democrat, they ALL find a way to screw things up. In fact, it's kind of hard to tell one from the other...except for the fact that they have WAY more money than I do! Luckily, I have my guns and religion to fall back on.

Amen Tundra! Wish there was a viable third party to stir things up.

Thumbs down Re: Anticipating May tax refund to buy airplanes...not so fast!

I'm in the same boat. I didn't get my check on the ninth either. I filed with TurboTax and because I chose to pay my fee out of my refund. I get punished. I hope it shows up on the 20th of Jun. Maybe then I'll have it in order to drive to Denver to see my daughter. Coplar Hobbies in Aurora may get some of my Stimulus money.
You're right things are getting expensive in Diecast. With all the new stuff from Hobby Master just alone. Thanks goodness Century Wings doesn't have as
many new releases as Hobby Master. I'll wait and see what other F-8's come out before I put out $70 plus bucks. Dragon and Witty are also bringing out aircraft that I'm a wanting. BTW I'll also have to be selective on any F-4's after the first two. IAF F-4 would be about it.

Re: Anticipating May tax refund to buy airplanes...not so fast!

... I'm seriously contemplating getting out of collecting diecasts b/c it's getting too expensive!

If it makes you feel any better Trex, I’m right there with ya. Rising model and shipping prices, lack of will power on my part (that amplifies this cockeyed scenario ever so much more), and a screamin’, non-stop, four-year diecast buying spree have forced my hand. Not to mention gas and food prices that are bound to get worse. Much worse.

That Gaincorp F-22 Spirit of America I just bought from The Flying Mule? It represents my last-ever diecast model. One week ago, anticipating the end of my diecast collecting days, I purchased a Corgi 1/72 RAF Coastal Command B-17 from Perry’s and four new incredibly cool jets from TFM (including that Gaincorp Su-27UBK). Love those things. But this insanity has gotta stop.

Still, it was a swell ride.

As for Bush ... the faster he leaves, the better.

This hobby is affordable as long as you plan wisely. I just plan ahead on my purchases. I pick out what I absolutely want, then what I would really want, then what would be nice to have, etc. Just prioritize.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Wow Gort, didn't know or think anyone was going through the same anguish/dilemma in collecting! Is that why you were away from TMH for so long?

TMH is great place to go and get information, talk planes/tanks/ships and just get away from the stresses of daily life. It just sucks that daily life is going to put a dent into my future contribution to this forum b/c I've got to cut back on collecting.....it'll just be too hard to read about all the cool diecasts everyone else is getting w/o wanting to do the same! Anyway, like I said b4 I've got a pretty good collection and will/should be happy to have that.......still doesn't mean I can't covet what everyone else is getting!

Boy am I having an Emo moment or what?!?!?

That was partly the reason, trex. I had to regroup and pay down my cards a bit before I could join in the fun again.

Problem is, it’s all coming to a screeching halt. To continue to purchase diecast models would be fiscally irresponsible—if not reckless.

So, I’m happy as a lark with my collection and will remain so. All of this was good fun, and I loved every minute of it. But things change; economics change; people change. I’m just happy I had a chance to share my mania with like-minded screwballs.

Re: Anticipating May tax refund to buy airplanes...not so fast!

Is this realy the official term : economic stimulus package tax refund check ???

Holy ´s*#" that is bureaucracy to it´s finest

Isn't all the money for these "economy stimulus checks' being borrowed from the Chinese government? I heard this a few times including on talk radio, so I don't know. If the US is borrowing the money from the Chinese then we are in sad shape indeed. I would rather the US not do that and keep the $600. Not going to make a difference to me anyway. If the $600 will "make or break you" then you need to find a different job, go back to school or sell one of your 6 kids on ebay....
