| Sharing the hobby with...? Who besides the members here do you share this hobby with? I ask because when I first started collecting as a single guy about 8 years ago there really wasn't anybody who I knew who was into planes except my uncle and he did expensive R/C and lived 500 miles away. Then, I found you all. Sice then, I got married and had 2 boys and they play with little airplanes and enjoy spinning the props and playing with the 21st Century models. They last about a week but that's ok. I've also roped my dad into this and that's what made me think to ask. He stopped over tonight and I showed him my Pappyesque like collection of new models this month. He was so thrilled to take a couple TM models and that 32nd Nicholson Hurricane I got cheap. He's like,"How do you find all this stuff so cheap?". Do you want 'em or not buddy? He said," Where am I gonna put all this stuff?". Ah, now you're just like the rest of us.... It was a good visit and nice to have someone visit who appreciates seeing the hangar in person. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? I wish I could say I knew someone in the Atlanta area I could share this hobby with. Unfortunatly, I am the only one I know who gets excited about anything to do with airplanes. Real ones or model / diecast. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? My dad inadvertantly got me into the hobby by purchasing Corgi's ME262 of Rudolf Sinner for me as a gift knowing my fascination and interest in all things Luftwaffe. First time I had ever seen a Corgi product of heard of one, obviously I loved it. Once I began getting other models, he began buying some with me (we tend to make joint orders to save on shipping). Other than that I get picked on by my friends when they find out how much some of these models cost. It's cool though. My wife tolerates it as long she's allowed to buy whatever purses catch her fancy. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? I think this whole thing started for me by my father being a pilot and building plastic kits as a kid and as i grew older and got married i stopped building because i just didn't have the time for it anymore then i started to buy my son the Matchbox Planes and that is what kinda started it for me and one thing led to another as time went on i started to meet co-workers who like the Nascar diecast cars and now about 4 of us all collect different type of diecast fighter planes. So all in all i have been blessed to share my collection with my friends here in town and now with all of you on our forum..Members all over the world and i hope that i have the chance to meet some of you guys someday... I do know one thing...My diecast collection of planes would of never have been this big if it was not for your friendship and this forum. JP | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? I can share this hobby with a colleague of mine who " intruduced " me into the 1:48 scale diecast world. Planes and WWII history ( not only airwar ) are indeed hobbies since several years now.My farther works in the Airline industry since 1970 or so and I grew up with planes and visits to airports. Now I work in the Airline industry myself and just need to step out of my office to see Aircrafts all day long.Ok, just civil airliners no military ones. But that is ok for me.Since we have the ILA in Berlin every two years I can attend an Airshow also in Germany. After the Frecce Tricolori crash in Ramstein 1988 there are several strict rules and procederes for any airshow in Germany. When it comes to friend, they take a look at the models, say " Ah that´s nice " and that´s it. I do have a whole shelf full of military books, military history, technics, weapons and so on an I was once asked if I was a WWII-Fan to some extend. How can one be a Fan of war?? I´am not a fan, just an interested reader. But you know, everything related with WWII is not that popular here in Germany. So I was really really happy to find this forum and some other collectors from around the world who share the same passion. THANKS! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? At the beginning of 2007, I ran into a lady at work who had a strange love of C-47s since she saw one up close as a youngster. I ended up buying her the Model Power C-47 and she loved it. About that time I was getting rid of my big group of Model Power planes as I started going with 1/72 scale planes exclusively, so I ended up just donating a couple dozen of my MP planes to her along with one of my shelves. I also made little info. sheets about each plane. She ended up putting her little collection on the wall in her house and has since bought a few more 1/72 scale planes. Otherwise, I'm the only one I know into this stuff. Kind of surprising since I'm in the "Air Capital" with all the aircraft manufacturing plants here. There isn't even a Hobby Store here that sells diecast planes, except for one with a few Model Power and a few Easy Model planes. Us diecast collectors are on par with the survivors of a really bad worldwide plague - there's only one or two per city. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Sharing the hobby with...? I DO share the hobby with my sweet wife of 39yrs.,in a way . I have specific bookshelves and stand alone shelves in our living room dedicated to 1:48 diecast, and she expresses specific interest in the A/C, and makes good suggestions on display arrangements, etc. Also loves to watch me open a newly arrived "gimme". I think I cured her of any objections to the Hobby several years ago. She came home to find a color, professionally matted and framed portrait of BrigadeFuhrer Kurt Meyer of the 12th SS Panzer Division in a central place of honor in the living room. I removed it after enjoying her very entertaining reaction. Now those little die cast A/C are QUITE acceptable and blend in rather well with her thoughts on Decor............ | |||||||||||||
