Planet Melmac, USA | | | | Re: In dire need of a miracle adhesive ... HEEELP!!! Hey Gort - thanks for the insight into your rational for displaying your models in their boxes...very interesting! What is your favorite box if I may ask? | Probably more accurate to say which boxes are my favorites, lanslide, ‘cause I like so many. Generally, if I can see the model at a glance, not just a pic of the bird on the top panel, I like it a lot. Viewability wise, Witty boxes are the best, owing to their double-sided see-thru panels. I really get a kick out of looking at their warbirds top and bottom. Witty cardboard is cheap, though—nothing like Corgi’s quality cardboard—so I can’t say I’m impressed with that. Makes for warping and creepy stuff. | Gort, this may send a shivver up your proverbial spine--about a month ago, we had a rather bad snowstorm.
After a couple of days, spring returned and all that snow started to melt fast. In the storage cubicle where
I store my diecast boxes there was a small flood. Finally got around to getting there today to sort through
the mess and found that about 25% of my diecast boxes have some measure of water damage. Only 1
was so bad it had to be thrown out though. After my incident I see the wisdom of your system. Just wish
I had the room to do it too.
Larz | Larz, I sympathize. Not long ago I hauled up several large Corgi bombers from my basement, and crap! The boxes were warping. SENT ME INTO A PANIC!!! So I purchased some Husky 50 Gallon Contract Bags (2 mil) at WalMart, bought some plastic cinch ties, and then did the following:
I carefully packaged my models in cardboard shipping boxes. I numbered each box. I kept an inventory sheet of which models were stored in which boxes (so I could easily locate them later). I wrapped each box in a 50 Gallon Contract Bag and cinched it tight so no air or moisture could get in. Then I numbered each bag (they’re black) with a silver Sharpie. And Voila! No warping or water-damage problems. Cool, huh? It works great. Try it. Gort, just buy some velcro 'buttons' at your nearest fabric store - various sizes and they have their own peel-off 'glue' tab .
BTW, you appear to have a sound and logical approach to displaying your 'collection' in a way that suits your particular tastes and brings you aesthetic satisfaction (possibly even self-actualization ) - good for you ! | | Just go to any hardware store, target, or walmart. They all sell velcro in a roll that all you have to do is cut off a peice from both sections, peel off the backing, and presto, you can replace the existing velcro with whatever size you need. |
Thanks, Cardo and skydriver. Love your Velcro “Button” ideas. I’m heading down to WalMart in a few minutes to grab some. I’ll tell ya, Cardo—with my models stacked floor to ceiling, it’s like walking into a toy store—just the way I like it! I appreciate your comments. | Hi Gort, If you are really rich, then your preferences make you eccentric. If you are of moderate income, then your fixation is a bit bizarre. If you live in a house trailer, you are a genuinely a nut case. Personally I keep all mine under my bed to fight the monsters. | | So what you're really saying Gort is that you are assembling a zinc-lined coffin? | | Naw, it's to keep the alien signals out. | OC and smartd and dboulais ... you guys crack me up! |
