| Re: Lets Blame Ethanol
Here in Orlando, gasoline today was almost $3.60 for regular unleaded. Glad I bought a Honda Civic Hybrid back in May, 2005. I saw this a commin' with the oil companies. A barrel of oil just hit a new high today. $120.00 and just going up. $4.00 gas is just around the corner and $5.00 is on the horizen. Think Bush and Chaney cares? LOL right.... . The economy is just "slowing down" according to knucklehead GWB last week. ![]()

Well Mike, I gotta disagree with the inference in your last sentence. Currently, the economy IS slowing down, but it is still moving forward, though at a very slow pace. We may hit a recession (if we do, i predict a short, mild one), but we haven't yet. CHEERS!

| Re: Lets Blame Ethanol Oregon mandated that 10% of ALL gas sold must contain 10% Ethanol. Nobody stopped to see if it worked in all engines. It doesn't work in two-strokes, chain saws, outboard motors and light aircraft engines. There was a rapid and loud yell from all those affected so the State is having to ammend its new laws.Another problem is that in automobile engines, it significantly reduces the mpg, so you burn more fuel to go the same distance, thus increasing the dependence on gasoline. It also costs more to produce. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Lets Blame Ethanol It will take $5 a gallon before the general US population realizes cheap gas in not a god-given right. The oil companies know exactly how much they can charge to make the most money, while still keep alternative power sources and competing technology economically unattractive. We need to be energy independent. Electricity makes the most sense for cars because you can make it so many different ways: oil, coal, water, wind, tides, solar, fuel cells... So let's put a $2 a gallon Federal tax on gas. This would make other way of powering cars attractive and we could use the money to fix the highways and bridges. Speaking of really fast cars, put a strong electric motor at each wheel and discover the magic high torque four wheel drive. We just need to get giong. Or are we going to let the oil companies make obscene profits for several more years until a real national crisis develops? | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Lets Blame Ethanol If I have to pay $2 more per gallon, I'd rather pay it to the oil companies than to the clowns in Washington, D.C. Better yet make all the states that have oil and refuse to initiate and increase production and/or refining pay the states that are. If they want the benefit, they should not get a free ride. Prices will moderate only when U.S. supply (in large part due to more production and more refining) more closely matches demand (hopefully somewhat affected by conservation and significant--not just "feel good" alternative energy sources). | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Lets Blame Ethanol
Take away Ethanol and your gasoline would be 50 cents higher. Straight Ethanol is $2.54 a gallon, gasoline is over a dollar a gallon higher. I have been running 10% Ethanol for years and I hardly see any drop in mileage. Maybe one mile and sometimes none. I'm paying 10 cents less a gallon also. Ethanol does not cost more to produce than gasoline. Getting oil and then refining it to make gasoline is way more expensive. Just more oil company myths that are polluting your mind about Ethanol. Heres a link,,,,, Please take the time to read it and find out the truth with Ethanol and food prices. It shows how much corn is used in our food and what that cost is. http://www.sdcorn.org/kernelsoftruth...elsOfTruth.pdf
