Pre Order Advice

Guys,

I need some advice. I really want to start collecting some early jet fighters, and one that I really want is the Hobby Master F-100. I know that I can get them now on pre order, but the cost is high.

What can you recommend? Do I bite the bullet now for the pre order ( which honestly I cannot afford ), or do I wait awhile for the price to come down. And if so, how long do you think the wait will be and how much of a savings do you think I will see?

Thanks

You might want to tell us how much the preorder price is? Depending on who you order from preorders can usually be about 10% less or so than the price of hte model when it comes in -- some retailers do slilght preorder discounts to encourage early sales. Otherwise you're probably waiting 6 months or so for potential sales and attempts to dump slow-selling stock.

Also, a preorder usually isn't charged until the model ships so you do not necessarily have to be able to "afford it now". However, if you are worried about that at all I'd just waitn until you know you can afford it, even if you have to pay more, as you will likely enjoy it more when you get it.

I've bought a few models when I really should have over the years (okay, more than a few ) and the guilt factor usually destroys the joy of ownership for me... I end up selling 'em.

Re: Pre Order Advice

Pappy,

Looking at 3 of the major diecast retailers ( Petes, Aikens, and Bad Cat ) the pre order price range from $43.95 to $44.99. No big difference so I would have to see if any have any savings codes or I would have to compare shipping prices if I am only going to order the F-100. One retailer shows a list price for the F-100 of $48.95 vs the preorder of $44.99. Thus no big savings.

Maybe I have gotten spoiled with buying mostly WW2 era planes that have been out for a while, from TM as well as the great deals I have gotten from members here. But still $45.00 plus the extra cost of shipping for a 1:72 plane seems high to me.

I feel your pain as well Sky. Jets seem to cost more than our WWII prop jobs. But even these are getting a bit pricey in my view. I'm personally waiting for new planes to be a bit long in the tooth rather than buying a new release right away. I usually buy planes at anywhere between a 15 to 20% discounted price. I have to wait anywhere between 6 to 12 months, but when you are on a limited budget, there just no getting around it.

As to the F-100, if you really want it and can't wait, I'd say buy it or preorder it now. If it is something you can wait for, then wait. Unless HM makes them a very limited edition, I'm sure there will be quite a few available 6 to 12 months from now.

Re: Pre Order Advice

Skydriver, If you want an idea, wait till you get 3 planes or so that you want (that total over $100) and buy from a retailer that offers free shipping over that amount. In that way, it gives you time to save and you don't have to worry about paying a bunch for shipping.

Re: Pre Order Advice

Dealers love for you to preorder from them. But I see no reason to do so. If you preorder you'll usually pay list price or near to it. Just wait till the plane comes out and then shop around for prices. Ebay has some great buys, far better buys there than the dealers you mentioned.

Re: Pre Order Advice

Hello

Pre-ordering items helps the customer insure that they will get the product as soon as it is released.

Please consider the smaller dealers also, we can offer great prices other than what is advertised.

Cool Re: Pre Order Advice

Kingpin,

If you are a dealer, please read my post in the Dealers section. I don't know who you buy from, but if you buy from the Major Distributors, they are now requiring that you sell at no more than 10% off MSRP, no lower, or you will no longer be shipped products. The wait for a model to go down in price may be awhile as I have some that I have had for sometime, and was told that I need to raise my prices back to Suggested Retail. Their statements are that everyone will have the same price, so no one gets a jump. I assume that this also means Pre-Order!

Re: Pre Order Advice

Hello

True the companies have instituted a suggested retail price and a maximum discount we can ADVERTISE. What I sell it for in my store is up to me what I advertise in print ,tv, radio is regulated.

So I am not by any means breaking any laws my pricing is within manufacture's guidelines and will continue to be..

Thanks
Glen

I agree Glen. Its your store and you can sell for what you wish to sell them for. Just don't advertise the price or put them in print in here. Someone ( and I know who ) will turn you in for selling to cheap.
