Skydriver,
my advice is if you want a new release then take the plunge and pre-order. Better again if your dealer offers a pre-order discount with no requirment to pay anything up front & if they are throwing in something like a shirt or patch then better again still. This is my own buying policy for ltd edition new releases of 1000 or less.
To explain myself further... try buying a Corgi EE Lighning these days, some around 7 years since they were first released. They are now HTF and expensive when you do get one - and any guess how many were released in the different schemes? over 40,000!!!

The rare Corgi Nightfighter Hurricane - 4000 made, the Donald Duck Spitfire - again 4000 made...
As someone who is collecting and in it for the long haul i'm happy to buy a new release and guarantee i'll get it this way, rather than missing out and saying "if only..." a couple of years later.
