WW II Planes Not Rendered In Diecast Yet

As part of a recently completed inventory of my collection, I compiled a list of significant WW II warbirds not yet done in the modern diecast era----including Atlas, Altaya, Italeri/GE Fabbri , IXO and Model Power, regardless of scale. I also excluded all planes announced as in the works by any manufacturer or distributor. Frankly, the size of my list surprised me. So as not to bore everyone, here are some of the missing warbirds for each country in order of importance---in my humble opinion.

U.S.A.: 1) A-20, 2) TBD, 3) Baltimore, 4) P-63, 5) SB2U

Great Britain: 1) Firefly, 2) Fulmar, 3) Battle, 4) Barracuda, 5) Whirlwind

USSR: 1) PE-2, 2) LA5FN, 3) Lagg-3, 4) TU-2, 5) I-153

Italy: 1) MC-200, 2) Fiat G. 50, 3) SM-81, 4) SM-82, 5) Cant Z 506B

Germany: 1) DO-17Z, 2) JU-88G, 3) HE-115, 4)FW-189, 5) Arado Ar.196, 6)ME-410, 7) ME-163, 8) Fi.156, 9) TA-152

Japan: 1)Tojo, 2) Jake, 3) Judy, 4) Nate, 5) Jill, 6) Peggy, 7) Lily, 8) Dinah, 9) Frances

Others: 1) Fokker DXXI, 2) PZL-11, 3) IAR-80/81, 4) Potez 630/631 , 5) Boomerang

You are probably saying something like this, "Hey, what about the P-36, P-61, Hudson, I-15, SM-79, Betty, FW-200, etc?" Sorry, but these and many others we are clamoring for have already been done--often by more than one manufacturer. While I'm not precluding any WW II plane, the list of total "no shows", above, also includes many very desirable planes. I wonder which of them will be the first to pop up at our doors under the arms of our favorite UPS, Fedex or U.S. Postal Service person?

Re: WW II Planes Not Rendered In Diecast Yet

I could think of a few more, but to be honest not that many.

U.S.A.: 6) A-31 Vultee Vengeance

Great Britain: 6) Fairey Albacore, 7) de Haviland Tigermoth

USSR: 6) Ilyushin DB-3, 7) Polikarpov I-152 8) Tupolev SB-2

Italy: 6) Breda Ba.65 (I would add the Breda Ba. 88, but though good looking, a dud.)

Germany: 10) Henschel Hs 126, 11) Blohm und Voss BV 141 12) Blohm und Voss BV.138

Japan: 10) Mitsubishi Ki-51 SONIA

Others: 6) PZL P-23 / P-43 Karas, 7) PZL P-37 Los, 8) Caudron-Renault C.714 Cyclone

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Wow, that's quite a substantial list! Of some of those already done many would need to be redone by a leading manufacturer.

CC, some of the ones you mentioned have already been done. Specifically, I have an Atlas DB-3 ( IL-40) and SB-2. As for others, the list is almost endless. For example, there's the Kingfisher , Yak-1/7, Yak-4, SU-2 ,Latecoere 298, Breguet 691, Fokker G-1, Avia B.534, Walrus, Seagull, Ikarus IK-2 and 3, Wirraway, Ro.-37 and 43, ME-323, Babs, Thalia, Topsy, Mary, Ann, Paul, etc. etc.

My real question is this. Will any of the planes nobody has done ever grace our diecast display shelves? And if so, which ones do you think stand a chance?

With some of the aircraft that HM has been putting out as of late, might just have a chance with a few of these, not many, but maybe a few.

The Beaufort & Anson would be some neat choices.

Again, we are counting the "lesser" brands in this discussion, which includes Atlas and Altaya. The former, has produced a Beaufort, Sterling and a Maryland; the latter has also just released a Maryland, is about to send us a Sterling, with a Whitley and Manchester scheduled for later this year. None of these are in 1:72nd scale, let alone larger, however my point was really about the diecast wannabies and which of them are most likely to make it in metal, hopefully in 1:72nd scale or larger. My own guess is that we will sooner than later see an A-20, TBD, Tojo, PE-2, ME-163, LA5FN ( or LA-7 ), and a DO-17Z. I'd love to see an I-153, Nate, PZL-11, Claude and Fokker DXXI, but I rate these as less likely possibilities. As for the ME-323, who knows-----maybe Model Power will try to cram this monster into one of their little boxes. If they give such a project the go ahead next year, the models should start arriving in 2015.

Those would be at the top of my aircraft wish list too.
