| Saw the movie Flyboys at the local theater. I thought it was quite good. It had the usual Hollywood cliches' and slightly unbelievable happenings and is certainly not 100% historically accurate. Having said that, it is still a very entertaining movie about WW I fighters - the best that's been produced in years. I recommend seeing it at least once. I'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out. Since it's raining here today, I guess I'll get out my Blue Max DVD and watch it so I can compare the two movies. I already ordered a few of Carousel's Flyboys WWI fighters for $45 each. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight Got back from seeing "Flyboys" a while ago-great movie for a WW I aviation buff like me. Not much for being historically accurate, but the planes and fight scenes are cool! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight Another note regarding "Flyboys." The movie, if I'm not mistaken, presented the Nieuport 17 as a new type of aircraft that the Americans would get to fly. However, it was introduced in 1916, and, though still being used by August, 1917, was being phased out at the time. The Fokker Dr. I was first introduced to the German squadrons August, 1917. So, as has been pointed out, historically the movie is very poor. But, I'm not really complaining! I'LL TAKE IT ANYWAY! The aircraft seem to be pretty accurate, except for the fact that they had radial instead of rotary engines. GREAT MOVIE! | |||||||||||||

Hey Capt Eddie, They're called WW1 Fighters of the 21st Century New and improved If you have a watchful eye..... during the part where he woke up and walked in the fog and the Nieuports come rolling in...Look real close ..... One of them is a UltraLite Nieuport. They had four or five on the set. JP

Perhaps I'll watch more closely next time I see it...on the other hand, if I do, it might spoil the fun!

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight I saw Flyboys with my wife on saturday night. I went in having heartily primed my willful suspension of disbelief. It was extremely entertaining, and I had to remind myself a few times that most of the aerial shots were cgi. Go see it, and don't take it too seriously - you will like it. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight I will tell you mates this. When i went to see Flyboys i was a little shocked to only see about 25 people in the theater that night. I guess most of the young ones wanted to watch the new Jacka** movie that came out the same time as Flyboys. I saw the movie came in 4th in the boxoffice with a gross of only 6 million. That is not a very good opening at all.... Sad to think people don't care about Aviation movies as much anymore. JP | |||||||||||||

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight Went and saw Flyboys with my 7yr old son. The plot and acting probably could of been better, but if you like airplanes and dogfights you will like this movie. We went to see WWI airplanes and what it was like to fly them, and were not disappointed. I liked it enough, I may go see it again in the theatre, and will defineatly join my DVD collection when it comes out. Was also disappointed, that at a Sunday Matinee, there were only about 20 people in the theatre. It is sad, if nobody pays to see war movies, they will stop making them. If you get the chance, go see it. You will not be disappointed. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Flyboys Starts Tonight I saw it and went just to see the action. The planes were colorful the cinematography excellent, the acting on par the romance not un-like what happened when young men went abroad and no sex so good for the whole family. The huge battle scenes were captivating and you could almost taste the dust and grit smell the aviation gas and feel those bullets whipping by. I was very entertained and the wife actually like it too. I hope this movie re-kindles the love of history and appreciation of the bravery of the first military pilots. No chutes, no vests, nothing but guts and hard turning. | |||||||||||||
