Midway Visit

Here's some pictures from my visit to the USS Midway yesterday. Most are photos of the various aircraft aboard, a few are of some models....the clear one is 1/48 scale of the Midway and last one is of the SS Ronnie Raygun. Awesome ship, if you have a chance to visit San Diego then this is a nice 2-3 hour excursion! Anyway, enjoy.

Re: Midway Visit

cool photos,

got anymore?

I would love to visit the Midway.

The photos are very good, and that ship is enormous, I think the whole British navy could fit inside it.

Big thank you for posting trex.

God Bless America.

Re: Midway Visit

Great pictures, the last aircraft carrier model is the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78). CVN-78 will replace the Nimitz class as the standard USN Supercarrier once the last Nimitz class the USS George H. W. Bush sets sail. The USS Gerald R. Ford will join the U.S. Navy’s fleet in 2015 & take the place of the USS Enterprise which by that time will have been operating for 50-plus years.

Re: Midway Visit

Thanks for all the comments guys! I was really surprised at how open everything was, especially getting right up and touching the aircraft. The rest of the ship is pretty open too, you pretty much get to tour every area of the ship at your own pace with the audio tour. The tour even has an animatronic captain sitting at his desk and explaining his duties. I hope you guys get to see the Midway someday, I guess I'm a bit spoiled being an hour and a half drive away but I am glad I got out to see it!

To answer your question JP, the girl in the cockpit of the E-2 Hawkeye is my better half. It was her idea to play hookie from work and go to the Midway (she's not really as bad as I make her sound).

Jim, since you asked (these aren't as good as the first set of pictures).....

Re: Midway Visit

Great little trip Trex! I remember a few years ago we wanted to go down south to either Savannah or Charleston. It didn't take much to convince me (to convince the Mrs.) the shorter drive to S.C. was a much better idea. We get there and I'm like,"Hey honey, look, the Yorktown Museum is here. Wow, I had no idea".

Now when we plan a trip she's more careful about asking why I want to go to ____________.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!
