Re: If you had to choose ...

From my fastidious consumer viewpoint, three considerations come to mind: 1) cost; 2) wider variety; and 3) space considerations.

But...if we are talking about a certain scale becoming the "standard" to the exclusion of all other scales, will the "variety" rationale still stand for choosing 1/72 over 1/48?

I would think not, given that your scenario is predicated on the idea that all manufacturers will be limited to a single scale, be it 1/48, 1/72 or whatever scale you might select.

In other words, if 1/48 becomes the standard scale for Corgi, CW, FOV, HM, FM, etc., does it not follow that the variety of 1/48 aircraft molds and liveries will increase?

Re: If you had to choose ...

1/72nd scale works for me. It allows me to collect as many in a series as I want. Like all the GA Mustangs, HM Hellcats/SBDs/Avengers. I wouldn't want to limit what I could or could not have because of the larger scale. However the F3F only comes in 1/48th scale, so I'll make an exception. Its the only one so far.

See ya all in about 15 months!!

Re: If you had to choose ...

Definitely 1/48th scale; I love the detail on a Carousel 1 or my 'lone' Marushin!! Franklin Mint puts out an enormous variety of quarter scale and SOME of them are very good. Now Hobby Master is joining the fray so I think this scale will become even more popular. I have about 35 1/48th scale aircraft to mix with my 80 or so 1/72nd aircraft. If you work at this, you can cram different scales on one shelf, mixing aircraft on stands with those on their landing gear. I counted 28 aircraft on a 3' by 3' shelf and there is 2 1/32nd scale and 5 1/48th on this shelf as well!!

For armor, I prefer 1/32nd scale; tanks and other armored vehicles are supposed to show strength and invulnerability; I do own 45 1/72nd scale tanks, but I have an excellent mix of 1/32nd and 1/50th scales as well. Also, the larger scale tanks usually have crewmen with them and there is more detail on them than what you can do with a 'toy-like' tank in 1/72nd scale.

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!

Re: If you had to choose ...

I find 1/72 to be the ideal ratio for all the same reason as previous posts. The only reason I am going to buy 1/48 is to have WWI planes and the next HM biplane that I am already drooling on.
If 1/48 were the norm I could not afford two B17!.

Sounds like you have already filled up that nice cabinet you had ready to install Captain.

You will just have to tell your good lady that some of her stuff will have to go to make room for more display space.

I wish you a full and speedy recovery !!!!

( I tried that but it didnt work work for me, I survived with minor injuries).

God Bless America.

Re: If you had to choose ...

I only have room for 1:72. Lauren only has patience for 1:72. So 1:72 it is!

I can never give in to the dark (1:18, 1:32 or 1:48) side.

Well, actually I do have some space left, just waiting for the right diecast (read: that I can afford!) to fill the space up!
