I have asked this question before but I never really got the answer I needed..

Did this scheme ever exist other than on training aircraft?? The reason I ask is that I have also seen 3 view schematics with this or a similar scheme on A6m5 Zeros and Tonys and I wondered if they ever saw combat..

I found one photo that might support this, but it is of an earlier model Zero. It is of a A6M2b model 21 of the Ohita Air Group, an operational conversion unit. Caption describes the aircraft in foreground "Ota-109" as having undersurfaces painted in orange-yellow with underside near landing gear bay being a dark green.

The A6M2-K two seat trainer was kinda neat looking too.It was painted with a orange color to i think it was.

I just found a neat site that might help you on your question with regards to Zeros with orange paint scheme. From what I have read so far, sounds specifically for trainers.(One name in the article should jump right out to you)

For the most part, the two seat trainer versions of the Zero (A6M2-K) came from the factory painted all over orange-yellow. Later in the war, the top-sides were field painted dark green. Tonys came from the factory unpainted natural metal and the A6M5 Zero was not a trainer and therefor was never painted orange-yellow as far as I know.
