Japanese experts step in!!

I have asked this question before but I never really got the answer I needed..

Did this scheme ever exist other than on training aircraft?? The reason I ask is that I have also seen 3 view schematics with this or a similar scheme on A6m5 Zeros and Tonys and I wondered if they ever saw combat..

I'm sure slide or his Father could tell you more about them.
It is a neat looking scheme.

Re: Japanese experts step in!!

I found one photo that might support this, but it is of an earlier model Zero. It is of a A6M2b model 21 of the Ohita Air Group, an operational conversion unit. Caption describes the aircraft in foreground "Ota-109" as having undersurfaces painted in orange-yellow with underside near landing gear bay being a dark green.

Re: Japanese experts step in!!

I just found a neat site that might help you on your question with regards to Zeros with orange paint scheme. From what I have read so far, sounds specifically for trainers.(One name in the article should jump right out to you)

Site: OUT OF AMEIRO CLOUD INTO HAI

Have to scroll down a bit to get to the trainer portion.

Re: Japanese experts step in!!

For the most part, the two seat trainer versions of the Zero (A6M2-K) came from the factory painted all over orange-yellow. Later in the war, the top-sides were field painted dark green. Tonys came from the factory unpainted natural metal and the A6M5 Zero was not a trainer and therefor was never painted orange-yellow as far as I know.

I wondered when someone would catch the familiar name clue,,,, I kind of guessed you would pick it off.
