| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be?
I am sorry to read this. I hope that you will eventually reconsider but I appreciate how hurtful this sort of thing can be. I don't subscribe to the idea that one can't critique a model unless you own it.----not when there are plenty of pictures to review as well as the comments and research of others.

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be?
HotTrap, First, on behalf of the forum, let me apologize for these ... individuals ... who wrote those scurrilous private messages. Their inexcusable behavior flies in the face of Model Hangar II’s high standards, and I can assure you they don’t represent the overwhelming majority of genteel members here. If it helps, I too have suffered fools gladly; but they are, thankfully, a minority. That's the way of it these days; you simply can’t escape rudeness or gutturalness or insensitivity. It comes with the territory. So, my friend ... raise your head, know you’re valued here, and join in. And please – do share your opinions. I applaud your posting credo; the rest of us would do well to follow suit.

Well said Gort! Hotrap, ignore those individuals whose 'words' say far more about themselves than anything about your character - you're not only entitled to your opinion on any particular model, whether positive or negative, but it is also welcomed and important for the future of this forum .

Ditto! HotTrap, I have always enjoyed your posts and reviews. Don't let a few pinheads win by allowing yourself to be silenced. Besides, who better to give critical reviews than a teacher?

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? personally i dont mind what people say about my models, i buy them cos I like them, not becuase others do, if people slate a model i have just bought i dont care, i like reading DH's post because they are very informative but he often points out huge innacuracies with models that i really like, does that somehow make me like them less?? hell no i like them just the same, when im looking at my display the last thing i think about is DH or the model hanger, i think about how cool my display looks to me, like i said, i love reading posts from people who know their stuff, im using DH as an example but theres a few of you out there, the reason i came here was to talk diecast and to learn, the guys that teach me the most stuff are usually the same guys who point out when models are wrong, so carry on, tell us when you think somethings mess up about a model, and to the people who own and like that model, dont take it to heart, who cares if some stranger you've only ever met on an internet forum doesnt like your plane, as long as you like it you have nothing to worry about, and dont ever send people nasty PM's because they didnt like your toy plane, thats about as childish as its possible to get on an internet forum, grow up, man up and realise that there will be times when people will disagree but we're all friends on here, if someone disses your diecast, its not an attack on you, they didnt say your wife was ugly or that you had a small penis, they just said they didnt like your model regards........kwiky | |||||||||||||

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be?
Personally I like it when folks like you post your opinion on models you have either owned or viewed. In the past I have also caught some flak from folks that had what I can only describe as having some emotional attachement to a certain model. Since it is common ageement that there is no such thing as a perfect model, why not point out the discrepancies as well as any praise. One would think that part of this forum would be expressing ones opinion on diecast models. I just went through your reviews, and couldn't find a thing for anyone to get whiney about. Shame to see you quit, because you put out some interesting to read reviews.

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? I have to agree with several points made by HT429 and for somewhat similar reasons. I have really cut back on my open participation in the forum and rarely post as I once did (which probably comes as great relief to many people here). I have some cool models that I have purchased recently but I'm not saying anything about them here. I just contact a few fellow members / friends and chat about them directly via email or PM. I also found it necessary to populate my ignore list. I hate to say it, but my enthusiasm has been dampened a great deal by some of these problems and individuals. I guess it boils down to the fact that I have to deal with this in the real world, on a daily basis - and I don't need it in my "happy place." It shouldn't be that way but it is. | |||||||||||||
