| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is a duck!! With over 200+ (and growing by six this week alone) aircraft I'm content for the most part with my accurate facsimile of combat aircraft. Everyone of them has faults I'm sure but I could not care less as I enjoy them too much. By all means manufacturers should strive to take valid and informed criticism on board. The obvious comparison in technical advances would be the Spitfire MkIX from Gemini compared to Corgi's offering. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? This all brings up interesting points. Just recently, Corgi was going to move into production with 'Friday the 13th'. Without an enormous amount of lobbying on both sides of the Atlantic, plus 'commonly available' photo reference supplied, these guys were STILL going to go ahead and produce another inaccurate piece -- at least according to their prototype they showed. Geez -- they have all the museums at their doorstep! I still have my email from CFBC @ DAF saying he was going to get the photos I had over to Corgi PRONTO. Does this sound like an outfit who is striving to improve standards without a sound beating first? (*shaking head*) It felt almost as if they were going to dispute photo evidence of their errors. It is really just the idiotic mistakes that could have been easily avoided by a quick field trip to confirm reference. That is what really frosts me big time -- complacency. I hope Corgi gets their act together or they are going to lose a lot of market share for sure. JPN | |||||||||||||

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be?
The last thing I remember reading on the DAF about Friday was that Corgi verified they were producing the WWII version.. The prototype was wrong from day one and no one is going off that pic anymore unless some new ones have shown up..

Do we really need more rules? I think we should just relax and not take this all so seriously. ![]()

I like to think that for the most part "we" are mature enough to give a respectable review to a diecast piece and I don't really see a need to set any guidelines..

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be?
Perhaps I should have used the term guidelines rather than rules and I was referring to reviews not off hand comments. Since distorted or incomplete reviews can affect a product's sales, a greater degree of objectivity and some documentation, where applicable, could make these considerably more informative. I have noted quite a few very helpful reviews on this forum, but others often seem rushed and incomplete. I'm probably as guilty of this as others so I wouldn't mind taking more care when I critique a model.

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? I sincerely hope that we can keep things light here. We can sift through the information given by others and not have to follow preset guidelines when we give a review (in my opinion). Isn't all this stuff supposed to be fun and entertaining as well as informative? I'd like a little breathing room myself. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? If it is a model I like, in a livery I like and the price is right I will buy it. As for accuracy I don't know a lot. If the corour's a bit off I won't notice it. Missing propeller blades, engines or wings won't get past me, but that is about it... | |||||||||||||

Yes -- they are now finally doing up the WWII markings. Yes -- the proto was wrong from day one, but Corgi didn't realize just how wrong(!) All I can say is thank goodness JETFAN published those photos here or we'd have another 'close -- but no cigar' model sitting on our shelves. I remember there was a real fit'n'flurry of email and JPEGsl flying back and forth in the latter days, for sure. JPN

| Re: How critical should our model criticisms be? I have expressed my opinion in the past on this forum. Then recently, I received a couple of "scathing" PMs regarding an opinion I've posted. As a result, I no longer feel it is safe to either give an opinion about or critique any model (or manufacturer) on this forum. That is why I seldom log in or post any more. My personal rules are simple: (1) only post positive opinions and use the most positive language possible so as not to offend anyone. I will only post if I feel it is absolutely necessary (or I'm praising something) (2) If I do a review, I will only comment on a model I own personally and have held in my hands. I have a set format I will use (see my FoV Me262 review for example) that stresses both the positives and negatives as I see them. From now on I will not post a negative comment on any model I do not own, even if there is clear evidence that it is grossly inaccurate. (3) My P.M. preferences is shut off. If I need to contact someone, I'll turn it on as long as needed. If you need to contact me, let me know in a post. Bye. | |||||||||||||
