Re: Would you turn a blind eye?

Gort, I was really responding to Cardinal's comment, "Many of the responses thus far fail to distinguish between low-wage economies and the concepts 'slavery', 'wretched' and 'zilch.'" It seemed to me that he was taking 'slavery', 'wretched' and 'zilch' more literally than you intended.

Are there "low-wage economies" that do not foster a sweat shop atmosphere for laborers? I don't know the answer to that one. How is the term "low-wage economies" defined?

For the record SneakyPete, your assumption is incorrect. I was referring to the connotative meaning of the 'emotionally-laden' words used by Gort (NOT denotative).

... should we take your name 'literally' ? BTW welcome to the forum .

Re: Would you turn a blind eye?

Welcome to the asylum, Sneaky! You'll love these guys. If you don't go stark-raving crazy in the next couple of weeks, I'll be surprised. Only took me TWO MINUTES!!!

It isn't faith that makes good science, Mr. Klaatu, it's curiosity. Sit down, please. There are several thousand questions I'd like to ask you.

You certainly should! LOL

Cardinal, I would not presume to suggest that you do not know what you meant to say. Therefore, I will allow my assumption to stand corrected as set forth in your post.

And thanks for the welcome, guys! Gort, I've heard about YOU! LOL

Re: Would you turn a blind eye?

...Question: By purchasing diecast models, do we compound third-world peasant misery—or subtract from it?

Purchasing diecast does not, in any way, compound third-world peasent misery. And, even though a substantial percentage of it's population is very poor, China is not a third-world nation. China's economic classification is just a peg below that of modern industrialized country. China has the fourth largest economy in the world and also has the fastest growing economy in the world. All the Chinese manufacturing, over the past 20 years, has caused a substantial increase in the standard of living for the average Chinese citizen. China has developed a middle class because of worldwide purchases of Chinese made products-- including diecast. As the demand for Chinese manufacturing has increased, so has Chinese labor costs. This is one of the primary reasons diecast prices have been going up.
