Skydriver makes the final table

Guys,

I just got back from a weekend trip to Biloxi with some friends for some gambling. Did not have much luck at Craps or in the Poker room, but decided to enter a poker tournament with about 80 other people. The buy in was $70.00. Play started out slow, but then I started getting some pretty good hands and built up a little pot and knocked out a lady at my first table. Then they made me move to another table so I figured I was pretty lucky sitting in my chair, so I picked it up and took it with me to the other table. Good cards, and more good playing, with some luck thrown in, and my pot got bigger.

Soon, more people were knocked out, and we had to consolidate tables again. I picked up my "lucky" chair and moved to another table. More good cards, a little more luck, and some good playing keep me in the hunt. Finally, it got down to 2 tables, and 30 minutes later I had made the final table "along with my lucky chair" with 9 other people. People could not believe I was carrying my "lucky chair" to the different tables. But, all I needed to do was make it to the final 6 to get paid.

Play went on for about 45 minutes and I won a little but lost a little more. 2 more people knocked out, and then I took out the guy across from me to make it 7 players. I figured I would try to slow play, and let some of the other more agressive guys fight it out and knock out a few more. But the blinds started getting bigger and my pot was starting to get smaller. Finally about 30 minutes later the 7 of us were still in it and the blinds were $15,000 and $30,000 with me being the big blind and leaving me only $17,500 left.

The cards were delt, and I had a 5 and 7 suited in the hole. Everyone to my left checked and then some guy on the far end of the table asked me how much I had and he went all in figuring to take me out. The other two people between him and me folded figuring if he took me out they would be in the final 6 and get a payout. I decided to call him knowing that I only had one more hand to play and, I did not want to just give him my $30,000.

I threw out my 5 and 7, and he threw out a pair of 6's. The flop came out with 2 cards that helped neither of us, but there was a 5 in the flop. Now I had a pair of 5's against his pair of 6's. The turn card helped neither one of us, so I needed another 5 or 7 to beat his 6's or I was gone. The river card was a 7. I had beaten him with 2 pair over his pair.

And I was back in the game which still left 7 people in the game. At that time, someone suggested we all just split the total payout instead of fighting it out. Everyone would get $400.00 if we did that. After realizing that 1st place got about $800 and 3rd place only got $300 and it went down from there, we figured $400.00 was worth it.

To say the least I was happy. I still ended up in the negative, but to have made it to the final table was worth it all.

I don't understand, you paid $70 to enter the tournament and walked away with $400 at the end. What did you lose?

Look at his second sentence. He did not do well at craps or the poker room.
