Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

Ok ten post on the subject should be a base good I guess. If we all agree that there is no perfect plane, why all the protest?
There is near perfect, no faults that I can find perfect, I'm no rivet counter perfect, looks good but historically wrong perfect, and on and on...

So with that in mind, why would anyone discard / not purchase a plane because its not perfect??

I don't like the tail sections of HM's Hellcats, but I have all the US birds. Gemini's P-51s and that rudder / antenna issue hasn't kept me from getting them. Corgi's bombers have more gaps that a California mall, still have several of those. Constructive critiques are one thing, complaining over something your probably going to get anyways is silly.

Of course you could always start your own firm and let us see how well you do.

Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

I agree fully with all the sentiments expressed in the above quotes . That said, I truly believe that my GMP aircraft, Minichamps armour and Carousel 1 aircraft are the closest thing to 'perfection' that one can get . (Let's not forget the Corgi Swordfish, Black Cat PBY Catalina and CW F14 .)

I don't agree that any of these are "perfect" other than the Swordfish.. Are these fine, top of the line pieces, Yes, but GMP, Carousel and the Minichamp models all have issues that make them less than perfect, very close, just not quite there..
IMHO, Corgi has probably made the most accurate and close to perfect model in the Swordfish, but even some of their schemes aren't exact..

You may notice that I referred to 'perfection' and not perfection. In this context 'perfection' for me is a relative concept based on my own subjective perception and no way implies that the models I was referring to are perfect in all respects.

To be truly perfect, a model would have to be made of the same materials as the real thing, be fully functional and have small pilots from the Land of Lilliput to actually fly them ...

I am just being realistic.. From a general point of view, we can't expect these to be "museum replica" perfect for $40 (average) and we shouldn't expect it, but when looking at all the pros and cons of a model, Corgi's Swordfish comes out on top.. Other than some few and far between QC issues, there isn't anything bad that can be said about it.. Even the crew are a huge step up from Corgi's usual offerings..

Talking Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

I must admit the Corgi Swordfish should win awards.
I also must say that my C1 Barraca Nieuport 11 comes the closest in my book to "perfection"
Although I like Century Wings more than most and they are in my top 3
1 C1 Barraca Nieport 11
2 Corgi Swordfish
3 CW In order: A) ,A-6
B)A-7
C)F-14
4)Witty A6M Zero

Am I mistaken, or don't you mean your Carousel Barraca Nieuport 11?

Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

Starting with aircraft, the 1/72nd scale, Gemini Aces, Spitfire Mk IX, flown by Frances Gabreski, is a phenomenal piece in every way, shape, or form!!

I love the Gemini Aces Spit as well (I have two). But it isn't perfect. The propeller is backwards.

Louie, does the Witty A6M Zero really rank as your #4 "perfect" model? You really need to see the Marushin 1:48 scale Zeros like the one in my avatar. They are very nice if you don't mind the lack of cockpit detail which I had added.

Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

I do not own any 1/48 aside from WW I and never will again. I appreciate a/c models in all scales and have found 1/72 to be my ideal collecting scale. Perhaps if I too owned a 1/48 Marshin Zero i would make the claim that the Marushin Zero is my #4 closest to perfection diecast. The key here to me is what model that we own do we consider worthy of that title. Clearly I see yours.........
The A6m Zero is my all time favorite prop fighter ever.

Re: Perfect diecast?? Popicock I say!!

I think everyones idea of a "perfect" model is what appeals to their particular taste.. My idea is not the same as Louies or bsmiths and that is probably why there will always be a wide variety of answers..

I have the Witty Zeros and I have most of the Marushin Zeros.. Both appeal to me in different ways as they both satisfy what I need in diecast..
