Why no civilian diecast (other than jetliners)?

Last edited by Migmauler : 07-19-2007 at 08:07 PM. Reason: typo
I've always been a fan of sleek civilian aircraft such as the Beechraft Duke and Baron, or the Cessna 310 and 420. I also like the lines of the propjets that regional carriers use such as the Beechcraft 19, the Dash 8, Saab 340, and EMB120. Not to mention the airshow performers such as the Pitts Special, Sukhoi, Christain Eagle, and other aerobatic planes I can't think of right now. I realize the 1/400 jet market is available, but why no examples in any scale of the aforementioned types? Would any of you diecast collecters be interested in any of these? I sure would. A 1/72 King Air would look great! Does anyone know of any of these types either in prebuilt or kit form? Just wondering.....

Shawn's right. There's pretty much nothing cool regarding small-size civilian aircraft. I'd buy one if it had some special significance to me, but other than that, I wouldn't spend any $$$ on one of those.

They're right, the best you can hope for are civilian versions of military aircraft. If these fellas loose interest in fighter aircraft that never saw action you can bet they'll not respond to civil aviation.

Hmmm, I seem to be in a miniscule minority here. I suppose the allure of the jetliners is not so much the aircraft themselves but the multitude of liveries available.

Herpa makes a 1/87 scale (HO for you non-train buffs) Cessna Skyhawk. Fairly basic looking and lists for 30,50 Euros which right now would be about $55.00 US.

Hot Wings makes a Cessna 172, Beechcraft Bonanza, Lear Jet, Piper Cherokee, Moller Air Car and Gee Bee. They have been promising a Piper Seminole for more than a year but I have not seen one yet. These are basically toys but at least they are there...for about 5 bucks each.

i would love to see some airracers. Like a GeeBee, Mystery ship, and Laird Super Solution.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Why no civilian diecast (other than jetliners)?

The general public just won't show enough interest to make it worthwhile to produce civilian planes. Nice idea, and there are a few good candidates that would make nice planes, but other then a select few folks, noone will buy them.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Why no civilian diecast (other than jetliners)?

The question has been discussed on the UK forum, have a look !

Personnaly, I would be keen on a line of 1/48 (1/72 ?) light military trainers and utility planes, of wich civil variants could be made...
