Give me ideas how to display names for my planes?

Hi

With an ever growing collection of diecast and plastic planes I would like to find a simple and cost effective way to display the plane name, variant and a little flag of the country it represents.
I have a PC, photoshop CS, a regular color printer. I was thinking about simply typing the plane name on notepad, print that, cut it and glue it on cut cardboard (Cardboard cards found at office depot or staples) along with a resized picture of that country flag glued next to it.
My idea sounds plain and boring to me, does anyone have a better idea that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg?

Thanks a lot

Patrick

Try having a nameplate engraved at HobbyLobby...It's not that expensive, I think I paid $5 for the last one I had made. You can then attach it to piece of wood, cut to size. Of course if you want to do this for your whole collection it could get a bit expensive.

Here's and example I had made:

You could try getting mailing labels (found at office supply stores like Staples and Office Depot). You would have to set up a template in Microsoft word or such to figure where to put each bit of text to get it centered in each mailing label. To begin with, you could just put in "xxxxxxx", then try printing on the mailing labels and adjusting the spacing until you have each one centered. Once you have your template saved, you can go back and replace the xxxx's with your text, "P-47 Thunderbolt" or etc. and print that onto the mailing labels.

Then pop the mailing labels onto rectangles of stockcard paper, either flat or the stockard folded in half to form an upside-down V so the name stands up. You could even get different color paper for each nation or such. And assuming you have your template saved for the mailing labels, you will always be able to make more.

Here's a somewhat wackier idea. Why not replicate the wing insignias of each country in standard sized square logo formats. The appropriate info for each plane could be printed on a small strip reserved for that purpose on each square, which could be placed in front of each model and held in place with something sticky.

Use a Sharpie, they come in lots of different colours to match/contrast any scheme.

Sounds like its time for a trip to Office Depot for some ideas.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Tundra04:

I have thought of that, but it's way too expensive, I might do a few like that for my top 5 or 6 models.

SkyBuffalo/Epapazian:

I love both your ideas combined together, I like the V shaped card idea and setting the template in word. I also like Epapazian's roundel square solution instead of a nation flag with a blank square left for the model name, I wouldn't use anything sticky but would apply SkyBuffalo's V shape card idea instead .

91ken:

A picture indeed is worth a million words (Or something like that.)
Considering that too but the SkyBuffalo/Epapazian combo gets the gold so far.

smartd:

-A sharpie? How would you use it? It sounds a little crude.

Cruver:

No trip necessary for me, I got the stockcard, word, photoshop, google, a printer so all I need here.

You guys rock thanks to all for the ideas.
