HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I am thinking of adding a single seat F-18 Hornet to my collection. I am not interested in Dragon so it will fall between Witty and Sunstar. Can any of you give me good reasons either way as to which model is overall the best representation between those two. I would really appreciate it. I can paint white weapons no problem. Fixed gear i could care less. A couple of screw holes don't bother me either. I am looking for the one with the least amount of glaring errors. I appreciate any help you can give.

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

Louie, do you prefer an early "Legacy" Hornet or a late Super Hornet? I don't think Sunstar is in the running for the best Hornet. Why don't you want a Dragon?

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I just like the Hornet with a single occupant. Sadly IMHO Dragon makes nice stuff but has far too many fiddly bits and I hate how Dragons heavy models have very weak gear that splays or collapses. I have given up on anything Dragon besides single seat WWII planes. Air Command offers less choices and are out of production but after buying an AC F-117 fighter I have grown fond of this line. They are basically scaled down Franklin Mint ?Armor planes. Some member on here showed a few pics of his collection (Diecastace?) and in a couple of pics I saw a mostly gray F-18 and thought it looked great. I did not see who made it. I want one that is preferrably not a CAG and lacks alot of bright stripes and colors etc. Too bad Dragon could not get the gear right without using lots of white glue.

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I believe that Witty only makes a 2 seater Super Hornet. Dragon makes single and 2 seater versions of the Super Hornet as well as a single seat early "Legacy" Hornet. Sunstar makes only a single seat early "Legacy" Hornet.

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I think it must be the Legacy Hornet that I want. The early Hornets are my favorite before they got on steroids.

Then you are left with either Dragon or Sunstar only. Witty does not make the Legacy Hornet. I know you don't want to here this but...Dragon is your best bet in my opinion.

I agree with Slide, the Dragon version is rather nice. Not many fiddly bits and the gear stands up under the weight. Just wish they had got the finger out and released the Canadian version.

Witty does make F/A-18Es. I've got the Royal Maces witty one. Theres also VFA-14 available

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I went through this same process a few years ago Louie. I only wanted one Hornet in the collection and I wanted a single seater.

After all the chatter on here and the heavy weight jet experts and critics weighed in........I got the Dragon Fists of Fleet. As I remember David Hintgen cinched the deal for me with his comments. It can still be found for a pretty reasonable price and I have no trouble with the gear. Sunstars F-117s are the only SS/AC worth having really. I have had the Tornados, F-14 etc pass through the collection and though not an F-18 the ones I've had are inferior I think. Trust me.

I love my Witty F-15s and Su-27 but have not seen a Hornet. Heck I don't really know all the differences between the Legacy Hornet and the Super Hornet but I do know that my Dragon is sweet.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: HELP PLEASE F-18 Advice

I thank you kindly gentlemen for your comments. I will continue to follow this thread all the while researching the information provided by it's contributors. I will only be needing one F-18 and it has to be the right one. I have to save room for all the F-4's I'll be squeezing in to every nook in my home.
