| Limited runs, how rare are they? Hi I just started collecting 1/72 diecast planes after years (And still) of building them. I have only 6 models, 2 are limited runs with the little card inside the box. 1500 made only, I am like "WOOOW!" but thinking about it and seeing that plane all over Ebay and various online diecasts retailers, I am just wondering how rare and wanted they really are. I even wonder how they can really made a load of money with only a 1500 run. I would figure a 1500 run would be snatched in no time, and then some would show up on sites like Ebay for a premium but the ones I have don't. Just wondering! Thanks a lot Patrick | |||||||||||||

| Re: Limited runs, how rare are they? Hi Patrick, A 1500 run is really pretty high for a single diecast piece, and it is also a fairly typical run number.. If you want rarity, a smaller run like 500-600 is probably what you should be looking for.. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Limited runs, how rare are they? I wonder what would have happened if CW had make a run of 5000 on their Jolly Rogers instead of 1000. Of course we, in essence, had 2 runs of 2000 if you count all 4. Corgi seemed to luck out with some of their huge runs and unlimited editions. Guess it boils down the choice of aircraft. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Limited runs, how rare are they? It depends on a bunch of things. Popularity of the bird, quality of the mould being tantamount. There are bunches of birds that had runs of 1 or 2 thousand, weren't terribly well done, or popular, and sit. Conversely, you have something like the Corgi Lancaster, which everyone praises and they are rare as hen's teeth, despite the fact that there have been between 40 and 50 thousand manufactured in all the various liveries. If you got a bird with a collectors card, congratulations. It's always nice to know that you are one of the few who owns a bird, even if no one else appreciates that bird as much as you do. Get the birds you like and be damned with obsessing on rarity. You'll be happier celebrating what you have instead of worring that you need to get something rare. (Please note this is my personal opinion and not a knock on the collectors who invest in the future value of their diecast.) | |||||||||||||

djjeffhall I need to point out that I do not buy for rarity, I buy what I want that fits my budget. I just happened to start collecting and 2 of the 6 planes I received had cards telling me they are limited runs. So it just triggered my interest. I was just wondering as for me 1500 people who own that model worldwide is simply not a lot of people. If the earth population is 6.700.000.000 (6.7 billions) divided by 1500 made = only 1 out of every 4466667(Rounded up) can own these 2 diecasts I have numbered, that's almost only 1 person for the whole country of Finland with a population of 5.2M (Finland selected at random), amazing! LOL! Patrick

Good point, I am not to big into the whether a model is a collectible, more interested in the aircraft themselves. For me collecting is pure fun, and a bit of dusting once a week.

I don't dust these often as I keep them in glass cabinets. That makes a world of a difference. Patrick

| Re: Limited runs, how rare are they? Patrick, Look at it this way. If you own one plane out of a run of 1,500 and 3,000 people want the plane, you've got a rare bird. Conversely, if you own one of a run of 100 and the other 90 haven't sold in two years, well it's not that big a deal. I think you've got a great attitude going into this hobby: buy what you like and enjoy your planes for the happiness they bring you. HotTrap429 | |||||||||||||

| Re: Limited runs, how rare are they? I wonder how they evaluate how many planes they will make for each model VS the number of buyers that might be interested. | |||||||||||||
