Looking for a good P-38 diecast

I am looking for a good P-38 diecast. I was needing the members help on which manufacturer makes a good replicia. It could be 1/72 or 1/48. I would like to hear some opinions. Thanks

Corgi's 1/72 isn't too bad...............if you like your tail sections made of plastic. Anyone know why they did that?

Most likely so they wouldn't be tail-heavy.. But Corgi does make a fine P-38 in 1/72.. The Franklin Mint P-38 is a nice piece in 1/48, and PappyB has some pics of one on here and on his website.. Look in the Franklin Mint section..

I really like Corgi's P-38, especially this one, which I own:

Robin Olds: Corgi Aviation Archive

I wouldn't mind picking these up as well:

Dick Leohnert: Corgi Aviation Archive

Oliver Taylor: Corgi Aviation Archive

I was looking at the Scat II, I really like the overall paint.

Re: Looking for a good P-38 diecast

I have two Armour P-38's (Putt Putt and Pudgy) and these are very good models (heavy too). I have two MB 1/72 P-38's which I like also ($14 but but no gear). The single Corgi P-38 (Bong) I own was a bit of a disappointment to me and subsequently decided not to buy any more. I really like the P-38 and I am still hoping that HM or DM will put out a good 1/72 version someday.

Based on what is available today, I would get a 1/48 FM/Armour P-38 (assuming the quality has stayed the same in the last 5-6 years).

It's an all around nice scheme...the full invasion stripes look great against the OD

I will give you my opinion in a week or so. I was fortunate to buy one from Pappy this week.

I just got Scat II today ( thanks again Pappy). And I must say that it looks great....yet I do have some complaint. This is a P-38 that looks like a brand new plane that just came off the assembly line. Even the turbo chargers look like they have less than 5 hours total time on them. I might be wrong, but I can't imagine many airplanes were shipped from the US with the invasion strips already on them. Thus, to have invasion strips on a brand new looking plane just seems wrong. Don't get me wrong, as I am not complaining, just my observation.

I might try doing some weathering of my own in a few months after I have had the opportunity to practice on some other planes that I have an extra of. But unless I am totally comfortable with my weathering skills it will not be done. Afterall, no other person that I know other than you guys would probably catch this if they were looking at it.

I'd agree with Raven's comments, entirely !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Looking for a good P-38 diecast

Scat is by far my favorite 1:72 '38... the stripes are great and you can't beat the history/pilot... but I prefer 1:48 so Robin is enroute to Sky's airfield now.

(check out the FM section for some pics of my latest 1:48 Lightnings. If you've the space, they are impressive.)

Edit: Oh, see Harry already pointed that out -- thx.
