TN,
at least they ask you in Canada. California just takes your money and uses it to pay for crap like the the DWP's lactation specialist ($50,000 + salary/year) to help nursing mothers?!? It's like a whole 'nother world on the Looney Left Coast!!!!!

I don't know? If they all nursed the state would likely save millions in health care costs down the road. Might be 50k well spent.

Yes, I have 2 baby boys.

Parsig, I guess Michigan isn't much better....I use to live there when the Lions were overachieving at 9 wins a season! Anyway, I'm not against nursing at all. The problem is that the DWP (Dept. of Water & Power) has a great health plan that does include lactation specialists for nursing mothers but they choose to have inhouse lactation specialists (on the DWP payroll that cost taxpayers $50,000+ per specialist) which, IMHO, is a waste of tax revenue. But this is just one example of the nuttiness that is California!

Re: How we pay tax's in canada

Yeah, that is nuts. MI is hurting for sure. Lot's of companies leaving, homes for sale, students leaving my school district.

Heck, I've been encouraging 'em to have kids before they graduate just to do what I can for my own job security. Gotta keep the enrolment up.

The Lions.......don't get me started.

Unfortunately Parsig, you're not the only one suffering like that, the whole state is suffering. It just seems like years of decline and misery.....god I wish the Lions would just fire Millen! My brothers and I, like a bunch of suckers, buy the NFL package on DTV every year in hope the Leos will make the playoffs one of these years....I hate them but can't not watch..........

Seriously, it kills me to read the Free Press, Detroit News, Mlive etc. and see the overall decline to such a wonderful state. I wouldn't have wanted a childhood in any other state!

I'm with ya, parsig....the ONLY thing making Ohio's economy look good is Michigan's!! Problem is (was) too high business taxes, drives business away (though Ohio fairly recently enacted some reforms, but these things take time.)

Re: How we pay tax's in canada

Yup -- sounds like tax woes everywhere. I don't think I'd mind the paying so much if I knew it was going to be intelligently administered! The 3 levels of our government here can't seem to get it together, figuring that the only way to meet the costs is to raise MORE taxes. I say a forensic audit is due at all levels.

I saw a documentary last week about Denmark. Their taxes are 50% -- BUT -- there is NO national debt, and all the social programs are well administered. I don't think we need 50% worth of social programs here, but the well-administered part would be nice.

TN's 'Tax Form' says it all, as far as I'm concerned -- especially with these Conservatives at the helm -- who by the way are FAR WORSE than the Liberals. The Conservatives have a long history here of 'secretive spending'. Mr. Mulroney in the 80s p!ssed our tax dollars away so bad we almost ended up like New Zealand -- and you guys in NZ know EXACTLY what I'm talking about! We were SO FAR in debt it was frightening! I can't wait to get to the polls to TRY to get this lot of Conservatives (Harper, who by the way, is being COACHED by Mulroney! ) out of minority control.

Whatta mess.

I like Texas, no state income tax on my retirement pay.
