Post Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

50's - 60's Brit:
Hunter; Buccaneer; Gnat; Meteor; Sea Hawk; Scimitar; Vixen; Venom; Vulcan; Valiant; Victor; Vampire; what's with all the V's? Javelin; Lightning;

Great choices smartd the 1950s are my favourite era for jets with the barriers of technology being pushed forwards at an astonishing rate, a very exciting time for a small boy to grow up in

Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

More countries, yes. More variety - not factual.

How about old transports? C-130, C-123, C-124, C-133, C-118, C-121, C-119, C-131, etc Navy versions, R3Y, etc

AND for older jets top award: the ONE AND ONLY P6M SEAMASTER !!!!!!!!! (Actually 16 were built)

C-130s and C-141s !! Many exits out of both of them, and a few trips here and there.

Thumbs up Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

My preference goes to jets from the 50s and 60s.

Vautour, SMB2, Mirage III, IV, Lightning, Venom, Sea Vixen, F86, FJ4, F11F, F8, A5, F100 (and other century fighters), B47, B58, Lansen, Draken, Mig 19, Su 15...

*although i do own a john mcain skyhwak but that was bought for me as a gift

One could probably get a fairly good collection of post-WW2 US military aviation if one collected all five of the planes he lost.

I also like 50's and 60's jets - I love the Mig-21. Additionally, I generally like the heavy bombers, maybe because there weren't that many different ones; B52, Vulcan and especailly my Atlas Tu-95. I also like the newer Russian fighters, like my folding wing Su-33.

Here is an odd ball one from that period. The Supermarine Attacker, not likely we will ever see that one made.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Maybe, but how nice of you to armchair quarterback the guy. There are several aviators good and bad that have bent or broken more than one bird.

Yeah, good point.

Apparently, there USED to be a "Dinky-Toy" die-cast Swift in die-cast... (probably released in the 1950's before the Hunter became pre-eminent; & so I'm informed, quite collectable these days - although PURELY from a nostalgiac point of view).

Amazing to think that the Swift which held the World-speed record (Mike-Lithgow) was outpaced soon enough by the 'Tide-of-Technology' as times move-on, by things like the F.101 etc............

Wish I could re-visit thost 'times' & see such classic-jets on a regular basis (flying) !!!!!!!!!

Yep; like Shawn says, easy to slaughter McCain from the comfort of yer own P.C. ('armchair') when HE actually put his neck on the line........... (unlike some )

The Swift is another great looking jet. I have and old Hawk kit of one, like having the old model kits from the 50s and 60s sitting on the shelf.
