Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

I prefer the 50s - 60s, and slightly tinkering into the 70s. However, as Skunky stated above... I love them all as well. You just can't say no to a Langley Screaming Eagle!!!

Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

I prefer the 70's jets up to the Gulf War. More variety, more countires participated in production of jets.

More countries, yes. More variety - not factual.

How about old transports? C-130, C-123, C-124, C-133, C-118, C-121, C-119, C-131, etc Navy versions, R3Y, etc

AND for older jets top award: the ONE AND ONLY P6M SEAMASTER !!!!!!!!! (Actually 16 were built)

I was just wondering, which era jets do you prefer?

I like the planes of the early jet era of the 50's and 60's such as the Phantom, Crusader, Voodoo, Thud, and Sabre.

To me, these airplanes are just beautiful. .

Seems like the bulk of my M.H.II 'brethren' share the same opinion as me.......

The Vietnam-Era jets are by FAR & AWAY the 'sexiest'-beasts on this planet, as far as aviation is concerned.

'THE' "Century-Series" Jets are my general faves (excluding the F.104, which don't hold my attention, the way the 'others' do).

Since the late '60's my ALL TIME FAVE' JET has ALWAYS been the F.4 Phantom - never wavered.

It actually hurt me as a kid, when I (used to) read comments about the 'Rhino' & how "brute-ugly" some a/c Journo's would describe 'Her'

Upturned wingtips & Anhedral-Tailplanes combined with the rest to make the F.4 the 'love of my life' as far as Jets go.

I've spent more disposable income on this one plane, than any other (petrol, films, camera's, models - both 'kit' & 'Die-cast'- plus time, often 'dragging' a (reluctant) Wife (then) round F.4 'Phantom'-Airbases, when they were operational throughout England & Germany.

Even got 'Buzzed' in a Cable-car in the Rhine-Valley (at Rudesheim) by a REALLY-LOW FLYING (!) F.4 in July '72, when on Holiday there, heart in my mouth, staring at the Anhedral-Tailplanes (& the ROAR !) as the cable-car gently swayed - (with ALL the School-'Lads' laughing & roaring with excitement at the 'event' when we disembarked, at the bottom !!!!!!!!)

I've attached a picture I took, about TWO minutes later, on the 'lower-slopes', when my Heart-Rate had calmed sufficiently !!!!!!!!!!

You don't forget things like that - they make the 'Affinity' (much !) stronger !!!!!!!!!!!

.

Me too. I find them all fascinating. And... I must admit, I believe the F-16 to be the most beautiful jet airframe ever built.

Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

I prefer late 50's to early 60's jets. F100, F8, F11 Tiger are all on my proverbial wishlist.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Different Era Fighter Jets

I have to say i like all the jet's era..There are just to many nice airframes out there not to like.
But i have to say the my favorite jet fighters would have to be the F4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat
because those are the jets my Dad (F4) and brother (F14 & F18) flew.
