Re: Helicopter Carrying 3 U.S. Senators Makes Emergency Landing in Afghanistan

You guys crack me up, they should have had our Pm with them and droped his dumb ass butt there as well!!

C'mon Tank let's get this straight, the PM that you want to drop into Afghanistan with these three misfits is the ONLY Prime Minister in the last 30 years that
even came close to supporting the Armed Forces, has restored their morale and listened to their Chief of Staff . If you want to drop anyone into that pile of crushed stone
drop Jack Layton, the gutless wonder who was asking for us to pull out before we even got there and he may as well take the rest of his party with him I bet there isn't
one of them that would ask for a pullout if their sorry asses were on the line!

Re: Helicopter Carrying 3 U.S. Senators Makes Emergency Landing in Afghanistan

HEY maple flag, don't get me wrong I am glad that he is behind the troop and that someone is at long last doing something for the army as it is long overdue. The sad part is they can't win there with the little force they have and for them to think they can after the russians were there for some 20 years and could not well It just is not going to happen. I am proud to be canadian and proud of the army , air force and navy who do some much with so little. It breaks me up to hear we lost another boy over there for some dam roadside bomb and makes me mad as hell. A lot of the deaths should not have happend at all, they should have a mineroller in front of them at all times, yes they can't miss them all but this is just sad. And for every one who wants them there , so many more of the people there don't. IF we can not get something done why be there?? We just lose boys and there is no way we can win a war the way it is going. It is just a mess, and in the end we will be like nam and just walk away and the people who trusted us will be let down.(this is my two cents worth and mine alone)

Unfortunately, it takes more than just a mine roller of some sort.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

That is not entirely correct. We did pretty well in Bosnia too if memory serves me right, and our Forces got a lot of support AND respect there. The problem with this effort is:
1. Our PM is a first-class prat -- who doesn't know his 'brass-from-his-oboe' -- showboating to gain favour with G.W. and the other right-wing conservatives in Canada, and
2. We will NEVER succeed in this effort as long as the 'back-door' is open and the Taliban have safe-haven in Pakistan.
I WILL agree, though, we could send Jack Layton over there to try to negotiate with the Taliban. That would ALSO be the LAST we'd every HAVE to hear from that retarded SOB!!!

Frankly, until we plug the 'back-door' into Pakistan, this will be our Viet Nam, preventing us (& NATO) from moving forward to helping the Afghan people get back on their feet. Even then, they are going to have an ENORMOUS job cleaning up their OWN mess.

Re: Helicopter Carrying 3 U.S. Senators Makes Emergency Landing in Afghanistan

Tank, I gotta say I hear what you are saying but an IED is just that, its improvised, that is it rarely looks like what it is, not often mechanically detonated and usually detonated by remote, cell phone or similar receiver.
As far as the Russians are concerned they weren't there as allies to the government but as invaders and as such had little or no support in country. The supply chain which was constantly broken or under attack is what finished off the Russian occupation of Afghanistan and the fact that the Afghans were being supplied with weapons and training from the west. Our casualties are no higher than our previous peacekeeping details and I'm not trying to downplay the numbers because any one of them is too many but this deployment has a price. Convoy discipline has a lot to do with what is happening, instead of maintaining reasonable distance between vehicles , they bunch up and 2 or three vehicles become one target. Just plane Nuttz has a very valid point regarding Pakistan, if they are sheltering the Taliban or providing aid or comfort in any way shape or form they should be dealt with the same way as the Taliban. i truly hope your statement about this becoming our Vietnam was not serious, as part of a combined force the burden would be shared by a number of countries, actually no, by all of the member nations of that decrepit hole in the wallet, THE UNITED NATIONS, talk about a mis-named institution. I could go on at length about my own experience with them but why bother, the whole world respects them, just ask Romeo Dallaire.

Well, regrettably, I was. The situation is extremely serious, and should NOT be the playground of self-ingratiating politicians, otherwise it WILL become a self-fulfilling prophesy that 'won't go back in the box'.
