Which Of These Sins Is A Deal Breaker When Considering A Diecast Model?

Various members--myself included---have voiced complaints about diecast models they purchased, or stated that thanks to one flaw or another, they would never consider a certain replica. I wonder, which of these common complaints or "turn-offs" is a deal breaker, as opposed to an annoyance but something we can live with?

1) Overdone, inked panel lines.

2) No pilot/crew figures.

3) Poorly designed canopy with glaring gaps, overly thick frames, etc.

4) Difficult to install and easy to lose "fiddly bits".

5) A basic lack of detail on the model.

6) No stand or a lousy stand.

7) Wheels-up options, without the appropriate part for the tail wheel( Dragon's FW-190s ).

8) Missing parts like pitot heads, bombs, etc.

9) Obvious gaps where key pieces of the model join together.

10)Attempts to pass off one mark of a plane for another ( Witty's "FW-190A-5" which is actually an A-8 model )

11)Poor mottling, bad paint job, wrong colors, etc.

12)Hard to justify prices'

I'm sure there are more deal breaking issues, but this should give us a start.

# 11 for me. Poor paint jobs.

And also, when key features of the plane are depicted incorrectly, like swazi's not in the 90 degree position, or canopies that are too high and ruin the profile of the plane.

Sadly there are no deal breakers for me, aside for perhaps the last one -- price is usually my primary consideration. I can forgive a lot of the faults listed, if I like the airframe and livery enough. (That said, I no longer collect IXO... )

I would have to add one more.

13) Parts or features, not to scale.

How about another (or two):

14) exposed screwheads
15) water-slide decals instead of pad printing

oh... oh... oh... and

16) blanked out / walled off jet fan intakes

couldn't resist...

3, 5, 9, 7, 10,11, 13 above

and 14, 15, 16

Re: Which Of These Sins Is A Deal Breaker When Considering A Diecast Model?

My biggest deal breaker would be the join lines,... # 9
This has stopped me from buying a few Corgi that I would otherwise like to have.
Subject matter is another consideration, I want aircraft with a history/famous pilot etc. Easy enough with WWII but modern aircraft it has to be a something I am familiar with or a squadron I am familiar with.

All considerations aside, it sometimes boils down to buying anything because the store is about to close and I cannot go home empty handed.

I can live with most things but I hate over done panel lines and ugly gaps.

The big put off though is over done panel lines.

Expand 16) to include prop aircraft intakes an radiator intakes.

15) Water-slide decals,,, definitely needs to go on the list.
