Thumbs down Rip-Off Report

Recently I went on yahoo Auctions Singapore and bid and won a 1/72 assembled Air Force ground crew set made of plastic. This set cost me $20 SGD or $14.14 USD. I can buy this same set in the USA for around $8-10 unassembled. After several e-mails requesting a total the seller tells me the cost with shipping is $80 USD!
I wrote back there must be some mistake. He e-mailed back and said oh sorry, I mean 80 SGD. 80 SGD = $56.56 USD! I told him the price was next to ridiculous and that I wished to withdraw my bid and that I would send him his re-list fee.

Seriously, what is wrong with this world?

Re: Rip-Off Report

Hobby Japan ships 23oz Marushin planes to me in Maryland for less than $20. They also arrive in usually less than a week. This person at Auction Singapore has their head up their _ss. Do you have to send them a re-list fee?

Yup -- gotta agree with that 100%. Without a doubt, abject greed will be our total undoing -- regardless the business category.

Medical insurance companies especially! Karma will get the ones in charge. "Sorry Mr. Thomas, I know you used to be the CEO of Atena, but we can't offer you insurance at this time due to a illness you had back in 1973 during the Vietnam war, you didn't disclose on your application that you had a headache on 16 April 1973, so your denied coverage for failure to disclose this illness"....

Re: Rip-Off Report

One thing I learned the hard way several years ago was always know the shipping cost before bidding. If it isn't listed on the auction make sure you email the seller and get it in writing.

Re: Rip-Off Report

A good point is to email the seller if the shipping costs aren't disclosed in the item description. Buyer beware, especially from foriegn countries like Asia. China sellers on ebay don't have a good rap at all. Counterfeit everything comes out of there.
