Shipping Costs!!!

I am needing some input from the great forum members. I am in the midst of purchasing a Corgi 1/72 HE-111 for my collection from a friend of mine in CA. He is telling me it is going to cost $25 bucks to ship USPS priority. I was wondering if this sounded about right. He said he was putting it in a box filled with peanuts, not just wrapping the Corgi box in brown paper. I usually buy through e-retailers so don't pay attention to much to shipping since it is usually free.

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

It doesn't surprise me, given the USPS' newish rates and surcharge for many larger packages (depending on dimensions). You might be better off if he used UPS or another private enterprise delivery company. Be gald he's not mailing from Canada!

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

That does seem high, unless he is required to purchase the priority boxes from the USPS, which I believe he might have to. In any case, I think he should be able to ship it cheaper with UPS, but that might not be as easy as just going to the post office.

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

Where's he shipping too? I missed that in your post, but that makes a big difference of course... if it's cross country and he's using a big box that could be close to actual these days. If he's a pal though why not just pay the 25 and have him refund any overage? If this is an in-state ship, then that does seem high.

Just cost me $42 to ship a Corgi Hurricane to Canada...

My buddy in Virginia shipped my Tuesday Morning find - B-17G "Bit of Lace" by USPS Priority Mail 2 years ago. He paid $30 for the postage. So yours would be in the 'ball-park' as far as the newly raised fees from the USPS.

If you chose UPS Ground (1 week delivery time), it'll probably cost you as much because you gotta consider the size of the box plus the weight of the whole thing.

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

With USPS priority mail it depends on the size of the box they have a flat rate box but if you get out of the norm for size even a 12x12 8 box will be more cost. I just quoted a guy to ship from Indiana to California and USPS was 26.25 Ups was about 13.00... It just depends on the size of package

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

You can somtimes ball park the cost by using the USPS shipping calculator. Largest box size that USPS carries might be a little small for a HE 111 though. So price of box might run at $4.00 to $5.00 and packing material might be a few dollars more.

Re: Shipping Costs!!!

It depends on what size box he's using too...I just shipped a 1:72 Lancaster from Cailf to New Jersey and it cost me about 22.00 to ship UPS.
I had to get extra insur for it too.
If i used USPS Priority it was going to cost me more to ship out..
