Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird ID Skills

It this one is not a Yak 17, you have me stumped. The Yak 15 was a tail dragger with exposed 23mm cannon barrels, so it cannot be that. The Yak 23 had a different nose gear door arrangement, so it cannot be that one either. To cool, I can't wait to see this ones identity.(I like getting stumped) Must look real close to the Yak 17 though, shot below definitely shows some resemblence, but cannot find another Yak aircraft that matches.

You know your Yaks pretty well, CC! Yes you and Epa are correct in identifying it as Yak-17!

I too got fooled into believing that it was a Yak-15 from one of the site I got the picture from. Check out the 2 attached pics below. First one is mine, and second is yours! Looks like they're
both the same types with the other looking more weathered after it was exposed to the sun too long, but they are one and the same. I'll have to be more vigilant in selecting the proper types next time.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird ID Skills

The canopy looks to be of either a Yak 9 or a Yak 3, but one slight problem though, upper cowling of both these aircraft did not have the intake that runs along the upper cowling of this one. Have to do some more digging.

Maybe this could be one of the new Yak 3s powered by an Allison 1710 V12 as apposed to the Klimov M-105?

looks like a Yak-9 but I've never seen one with an air intake on top of the engine cowling

Nice guess!

Again, you guys got this one correct and yes, it is a Yak 9 with a unique upper air intake/scoop which sort of throws you off into thinking "Is it really what I think it is or is this another variant of the same aircraft...blah blah blah?"

Here's the website I got the picture from: Warbird Alley: Yakovlev Yak-9
