Redbull Crashed Ice

Have you guys heard of this event that took place over the weekend in our city? Skaters going downhill 4 at the time, at speed of 35mph on a 535m track (1760ft).

Crazy stuff... It was impressive to watch.

Image and video available on their site.

After watching that I know a couple that are currently crawling north and shriveling in the process.

I gotta say, though, I am LONG OVERDUE for another trip to Old Quebec City.

That IS a cracker of a video!!! Where they put that course sure looks familiar. Have I walked down there on one of my trips? Funny how most of the footage of those guys screaming downhill almost looked like out takes from a hockey game(!!) Oh well, I sure wouldn't mind seeing that in person some time too. (Love that town, too!)

It was the 3rd year in row in Quebec city. It is pretty wild; 85,000 people gathered in the streets to watch these maniacs. They usually select cities with good slopes and cold weather. Here's the history so far:

Québec City, Canada - 2008
Helsinki, Finland - 2007
Québec City, Canada - 2007
Québec City, Canada - 2006
Prague, Czech Republic - 2005
Moscow, Russia - 2004
Duluth, Minnesota – 2003 & 2004
Klagenfurt, Autriche – 2001
Stockholm, Sweden - 2000

San Fransisco would be an awesome candidate but unfortunately there's no snow. I hope some of you have a chance to see that in person one day.

If you visited Quebec, you definitely walked that street. The course started right at the base of Chateau Frontenac and continued in a very steep street down to St-Lawrence river. To make the race event harder they added big steps & 90 degree turns.
