Thumbs up Re: Some of my fav books !!!

Below are just a very few of mine (specifically Reference oriented). Most are RAF oriented (natch! )

It should be noted that the red-edged one (Hamlyn's Concise Guide to British Aircraft of WW2) is woefully full of errors, so -- unless you are just looking at photos or want a general over-view of what the RAF used, stay clear! The stats are NOT reliable.

I would expect many of you guys to have a couple of these in your collection too, so no surprises or revelations here. (I won't bore you guys with the myriad of Civil Propliner reference books I have!)

Re: Some of my fav books !!!

Here are some of mine.

First pic is of 3 books I constantly dragging into the family room with me to browse while watching tv.

Second pic is my second tier (see above).

Third pic is 2 other of my personal favorites - compilations of Osprey Aircraft of the Aces covers w/ history/text.

[Too many Osprey Aircraft of the Aces and Combat Aircraft books to list/photogragh. My favorites of those shift day-to-day, week-to-week - depending what I'm thinking of at the time.]

I can't even come up with an honest answer on that. I just got "War in the Pacific Skies" last week (great deal on half.com!) - it focuses on USAAF and Marine air combat in the Pacific - heavy on medium bombers and P-38's. A handful of P-39 paintings, etc., etc..

"Flying Aces" and "Bomber Missions" both cover Europe and Pacific theaters - Axis and Allies. "Carrier War" is heavily U.S.

I think I got "Flying Aces" first, then "Carrier War." "Bomber Missions" I picked up off half.com - but it seems like I've seen that one pretty recently in a Barnes & Noble bargain books area for around $12.98.

My suggestion: Create and put the 2 you don't have on a wsh list at half.com - eventually one will show up at a great price. (The same seller I picked up "War in the Pacific Skies" from has one listed at $11.86 +shipping - that's what I paid, and not too bad for a book with a $39.95 list price.)

I know I've rambled around your question and haven't really answered it - But they are all great, one just doesn't stick out above the others (for me).

[My opinions on these are only based on the artwork included - I have not even gotten beyond the paintings to read any of the text.]

Re: Some of my fav books !!!

The selection of military aviation books available today is really quite impressive. I usually have two or three books waiting to be next in line to be read and it pretty much ensures I always have a book to look forward too. Here are a few of my favorites as far aviation history, and some they I use for references.

DADoser, I have all the aviation artbooks you show on the second and third tier pic except the one by Jack Fellows "Bats Outta Hell B-25" cover art. Is that book still available? Thanks.
