Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Returning to WWII:
Poland's PZL-11 fighters and more developed variants, won many export orders. Two of these countries did not use the PZL fighters in their air arms. Can you name them?
1) Hungary
2) Romania
3) Greece
4) Finland
5) Yugoslavia

That would be 4) Finland.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Using the picture below, you will notice two upward firing cannon on upper fuselage. What was the name the Luftwaffe gave to this upward firing weapon arrangement?

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

OK. Here's another one on the same subject:
During WWII's conflict between the Soviets and Hitler's minions, Russian combat planes---and fighters in particular--- often sported an upper surface disruptive camouflage pattern of black and green. This was especially evident between 1941 and 1943, but continued to a lesser extent afterwards. How did the Soviets devise this relatively unusual camouflage scheme?
1) Black and green were the best colors to hide a plane flying over Russia's many forests.
2) Since the Germans used a two-tone gray camouflage on their fighters, the Russians felt that black and green provided a much needed differentiation.
3) The factories turning out Soviet fighters ran short of brown paint but had plenty of black---so they used it.

Moving this up.
