Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

2. Suitcase and pencil.... just re-read question never mind..... lets go with 4.

Correct answer!! These aircraft come up in several of my WWII aircraft recognition journals and manuals as possible areas were the identification could be confused by similarities in shape. Hard to imagine the Ki 44 and the P-47 being confused for one another, but this example comes up in both my United States Joint Service Journals and also similar Joint Service Journals out of the United Kingdom. The Aeroplane Spotter publications have quite a few of these potential problem areas in aircraft identification.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

What did Italian pilots request be changed on both the Fiat G 50 and the Macchi C.200 Saetta that was actually changed at their request?

1. Increased armament, two 12.7mm was insufficient.
2. Drop tanks to increase range in the desert where the were currently flying.
3. Open cockpits
4. More powerful engines to compete with RAF fighters.

The pilots wanted open not closed cockpits as these planes were originally designed, so 3. is the answer.
