The Bf 110 had the Shark Mouth just a little bit earlier, Bf 110s of II./ZG were sporting a Sharks Mouth as early as the spring of 1940.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

During the Korean War, the F-86 built up an impressive edge over Russia's Mig-15------according to U.S. sources. The Russians also made impressive claims, contending that their pilots, plus those of their allies---the Chinese and North Koreans--shot down approximately 830 F-86s, or slightly more than the 792 Mig kills reported by the U.S. Humm? One way to unravel such claims and counter claims is to determine how many planes of each type were ever in the combat theater. While there are no reliable figures for the Migs deployed in this conflict, how many F-86s were ever involved in this war-----counting replacements, new units, etc.?
1) 150
2) 300
3) 500
4) 675
5) 950
6)1200

Have to go with 4) 675.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Using the picture below. You will notice that this Ju 88 has a strange looking paint scheme on its nose section, what might this be for?

1. It was an attempt to make it easily blend in with a formation of Ju 88As.
2. An attempt to get fighters into making a rear attack were defensive armament was heaviest.
3. An attempt to lure fighters into making a frontal attack.
4. Just the paint scheme of an imaginative ground crew.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Correct. If true this makes the Soviet claims ring false. We contended that we lost only 230 F-86s in the Korean War.

3. This is a JU-88C day fighter with a phony bomb-aimer's position painted on it.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

In the defence of Singapore, between the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIB and the Brewster Model 339E Buffalo, which aircraft were credited with more confirmed A6M Zero victories?

1. Brewster Model 339E Buffalo
2. Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIB
3. During this period records were sketchy and no firm claims credited.
4. Neither, because the Japanese Navy had no assests in this venture and all fighter kills were either Ki 27 Nates or Ki 43 Oscars.

I'll go with 4.

Correct answer!!! Talk about a surprise a Soviet fighter might get trying to making a head on pass with this one.
