Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

During the defence of Singapore during the opening stages of WWII. On at least two occations the type of aicraft claimed shot down was of German make. What type aircraft was claimed.

1. Ju 87
2. He 111
3. Me 109
4. No such claims were made.

This is a new one for me. However, since the Germans had sold the Japanese one or more BF-109s and it was widely assumed at the time that they were using this type, this ( 3 ) must be the answer.

3. The SM -79 was not involved in the BOB.

3 is the correct answer!!! The SM-79 was not one of the aircraft type that was deployed for this operation. Other Italian aircraft used in the transport role for this operation were Caproni 133Ts, one Savoia-Marchetti S.75, with nine Ca164s for communications.

Oh, what the heck...BF-109K

If no, then I would guess the Tempest.

1. Heinkel He-115V-1
2. Arado Ar 80V-2
3. Focke-Wulf Fw 159V-2
4. All of these aircraft were in competition with Bf 109 to the Luftwaffe's first monoplane single seat fighter.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Here's one about flying tactics. When a fighter pilot engaged in combat suddenly goes full throttle, pulls up 180 degrees, then does a half turn at the top of the resulting half- loop to right himself in a dive, this is called a:
1) Flip-flop
2) Immelmann
3) Luftberry
4) crazy stunt

The answer is an Immelmann.
