Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

Who was the highest scoring United Kingdom ace of WWI? (WWI questions are cool.)

Supposedly, it was Edward Mannock with 73 "kills", however there is lots of controversy about such figures with strong suspicions that they were padded.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

You are right on the money. In fact, the gaping shape of most radial engines reduces rather than enhances air speed. It takes a huge horse power advantage--as we had over the Japanese and Germans in WWII-- to make up for this deficiency,

True the radial could put out a heck of a lot more power per pound than the inline.
How about a PW twin wasp fitted to a P40?
It very nearly happened.

God Bless America.

Re: Quiz: Test Your Warbird IQ

The date 21 April 1918 and the Sopwith Camel pilot he was in pursuit of was Wilfred May.

Correct!

But that sure would have messed up the looks of good looking fighter.
