Question After some local information

Hello fellas,

After seeing so many of you across the pond last week, I thought I'd make the trip the other way! I'm actually after a bit of information if anyone can help? I'm going to be in Kansas in a few weeks time on an exercise and will be stationed in Fort Leavenworth. Are there any good diecast retailers or aircraft museums of note in the area? I have a long weekend in the middle of the exercise, so will have a little bit of time to do some sightseeing and stock up on diecast!

Cheers

The National World War I museum is located in Kansas City, which is not far from Ft. Leavenworth. I went to Leavenworth in 2005 for one day trip to the CALL. It's a nice post and very historic. But, don't try to go to the prison. I didn't.

Re: After some local information

Pull over, let the other passenger ( hopefully you'll have one ) drive. Now go to sleep with instructions to be woken when you have left the state. Kansas is like a treadmill, you get on I-70 and it takes FOREVER to get anywhere. Ft Riley makes a nice stop for historical stuff, but thats all I'd stop for save gas.

My father was stationed at Fort Riley and I remember some real long and boring treks on I-70. Just curious if the Atomic Cannon is still up on the hill along that route.

Re: After some local information

If you're up for a 3 to 4 hour drive down to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the Woolaroc Museum has a great collection of Colt firearms, as well as other firearms manufactured under contract with the US Govt. Also has a very nice group of exhibits relating to the native american.

Re: After some local information

My drive to Fort Riley in 2002 resembled a trek across the moon, except there was grass instead of plain, grey surface. I always thought seeing ones and twos of oil pumps was different.
