Re: After some local information

I've only been there once, back in 2006. It was on one of those weekends (which was nearly EVERY weekend) where I had to get the hell out of Altus. Instead of going to the usual places like Dallas, Okie City, or Tulsa, I decided to go to Wichita. I saw this place in the phone book, and decided to check it out. I don't remember the guy who runs the place too well, but he did have a good selection of planes on hand.

That list of towns almost sounds like the Route 66 song. Were you a roadie with Depeche Mode??

Lots of Route 66 history in Oklahoma. According to a previous thread, I was a roadie for Led Zep, not the Depressed Commode!

When (if) you get to the PX, here's what to look for:

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: After some local information

Thanks for all the info guys. Sounds as if Wichita is my best bet then. It's an interesting picture being painted of Kansas... it may not compare to some of my previous trips to the States! The WW1 and firearms museums sound like they will be worth a trip, so thanks for the input - much appreciated.

BTW, if you're looking for a good place to get some lunch, try the Dog-N-Shake. There's a few of them around town. I really enjoyed that day I spent in Wichita.

Re: After some local information

Rush, you must have been in a different Wichita than me...I spent two years in that town and don't think I enjoyed 10 minutes of it....

Like I said, I only been there once. To be honest, if I had a choice to go see Wichita or Gibraltar again, I'd take Wichita!
I guess it's like any other place- the tourists enjoy it more than the locals usually do!

Re: After some local information

I've just clocked that I'll be in Leavenworth over ST Paddy's Day, so it might not be a total washout! Very intrigued by the Dog'N'Shake - not sure if it's a restaurant or some strange habit!

I'd still sleep through it enroute to Colorado!
