Re: GREAT Model Hangar Story (w/ Parsig9)

I can't wait for the hours-long discussions on doctrinal terms. I think that's why TDY tends to involve heavy drinking (for some, but not me) and pictures that your spouse wouldn't want to see...

I think some OES schools involve making life much harder than it ever needs to be. Like trying to figure the most complex manner to accomplish the easiest of tasks.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: GREAT Model Hangar Story (w/ Parsig9)

Glad you posted that story Doser! What a surprise that was to get a letter from Colonel Coe and some gifts too. Since then, I obtained another Phantom flown by Dick and Ken that day and have it displayed with the things I was sent. He even signed one of the photos. What a great guy! Thanks to you Doug for helping this along too.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Re: GREAT Model Hangar Story (w/ Parsig9)

Me neither JP! I might also mention that Colonel Coe wrote in the letter that the photos were taken the day they were hit and shot down by a SAM I think. In fact, The in flight photo was taken, they landed to refuel and then were scrambled to intercept or patrol (I forget) when the SAM got 'em. If any of the members here can post more or different information about that day I would be interested to see it. I do not have any Phantom books at all. Oh Phantomfan???

Wow, great story!

(Think we should tell him there's a 1:48 version in diecast, too? )

Dick tells the story of his kill in the Squadron/Signal book: ...And Kill Migs: Air to Air Combat from Vietnam to the Gulf War. by Lou Drendel. (I have the 3rd ed. 1997). Dick's story is on pages 34 and 35, along with 2 of the 3 photos Dick sent Parsig9 and me. Photo of his Phantom "in flight" was taken on Oct 5, 1972 - caption reads "F-4E of Dick Coe refueling on egress from North vietnam after kill. Note missing AIM-7! (Dick Coe)"

A color artist profile of Dick's Phantom is on page 41 of this same book. [Entire book is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. Individuals relating their stories as well as plenty of pics and artist aircraft profiles.]

Its a pretty dense page and half of text/story.....but if someone has this book and scanning capabilities.......???????

Take care,
