Re: Model kits from days gone by.

The ones I remember were, indeed, a green colour and resembled something that may have been something one inserted from the south, northwards!! (Uggghhh!)

Maybe it was some kind of glue used to hold loose bowels together!

Talking Re: Model kits from days gone by.

To bad box art was not worth money, got to wonder if a kit from the 60's that is not opeand would be worth a lot of $$$$$$ today??

Well they can in minty-mint condition (unopened). If you are craving something special, check these guys out. Bring LOTS of money! HERE is a REAL Monogram 'classic'!!!

Of course, there still is eBay which can pretty hit-n-miss. 'Mint' models can also arrive with a few parts started. (Umm . . . what part of 'mint' don't you guys get?) Buyer beware there! To get a bit of a sample, just type in something like 'Revell Spitfire' or 'Monogram Kingfisher' (or whatever you may fancy) and see what comes up. I got a real nice vintage Monogram TWA Super Constellation there a while back. Bought it for the 2 passenger stairs for my 1:144 Corgi Bristol Britannias. Box art is an astounding late 50s-early 60s illustration! Totally the Monogram I remember starting with!

Ooops! Almost forgot another -- doesn't THIS get your heart racing?? Sure did mine! Just look at that illustration . . . an adventure about to begin -- and home in time for lunch!

Now we buy 'em just like this made out of metal!

(JPN EDIT: You know, I've been back here a few times looking at that very box and it just keeps looking better and better each time. I also wonder where my original of this got to. I can also clearly remember building that very kit. What a stunning kit it was to paint and build. Great detail. I think I am going to hunt this very one out for 'old time sake' -- whatever the cost.)

You know, I think the box art idea needs to be forwarded to hawkonevoodoo...

Regrettably, we just don't have the super-talented illustrators around any more today. I work in the Ad & Design biz and I haven't seen anyone, ANYWHERE as good as the illustrator that did that P-40B box art. And those guys in those days were EVERYWHERE. We can thank computers, boys.

Re: Model kits from days gone by.

What about a Revell armor "set" - had a Sherman, duece and a half truck and a 155mm Long Tom and tractor!? Talk about box art! This must have been in the late 1950s? Never did get one, but used to dream about it a lot.

I agree, it is Art in the full sense of the word.
There were some very gifted artists about in those days..
Great idea about having a word with HM.

Thanks for posting that CC.
