Re: Model kits from days gone by.

All of this brings back a lot of memories. I (too) used to cut out the box top art and pin them on the wall. Would take the models, excess glue and all, and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line - really was interesting in the summer when the windows were open and the wind blew! The Revell Memphis Belle was quite a cutting edge kit in its day, if I remember correctly. What about the old Frog kits (I think) that came with a little soft plastic container of glue - that got pretty messy!

Yes!! The 'Belle' was a real challenger for me at that time. I built it in 1967. I do recollect the Frog kits having that weird clear plastic/rubber ampule of glue. I found it weird and just used my Testors. Mmmm . . . good times -- good times!

Re: Model kits from days gone by.

Forgot to put the Airfix kits in a bag on this thread. I sure remember making a whole bunch of these.

Memories Eh, I remember those CC, in todays money they were about 20 cents each!

Airfix prices around 1960 old money were, 2 shillings, 3 shillings, 4 shillings and 6 pence, and all the heavies were priced at 7 shillings and six pence.
(price depended on size, back off Skunky)!

A shilling is equal to 5 pence or 10 cents US nowadays.

God Bless America.

Aw memories. I can remember back to when I was a kid, we use to have a hobby shop with so many kits I could neve make up my mind what I wanted. I can remember building a B 17, hellcat and a F 11 When I was 11. One of my fav kits was the then new cf 18 in canada's service's, I made two of them. It was fun!! PS I use to cut the tops of boxes to and still had some up till a few years ago!!

IIRC, didn't the old Heller kits also have a green plastic glue ampule? That thing always looked like some kind of mutated vitamin...

Geez! -- My Brother STILL has a couple up in the utility room in his basement!!! One is a Convair B-58 Hustler. (Yeah!) I think they're the same ones he had up in his work area decades ago.

Re: Model kits from days gone by.

To bad box art was not worth money, got to wonder if a kit from the 60's that is not opeand would be worth a lot of $$$$$$ today??

I would think so. It seems like the old Aurora and Renwal kits I've seen on the net bring in pretty good money.

The ones I remember were, indeed, a green colour and resembled something that may have been something one inserted from the south, northwards!! (Uggghhh!)
