Re: B-29 "FIFI" will fly again! :)

I can just make out the size ten boot in the doorway.

Did you ever jump with one of those weird conical chutes, it was claimed that they were the safest chute ever invented and it was impossible for one turn inside out?

I think I know what you're talking about, Jim..but I have never jumped one nor have I ever seen anyone else use one..I believe they were in use as reserves at one time.

Conical chutes??? Never heard of it nor would I jump it until I've seen Tank Nut try it out. And even then it may be fools luck that he survives. But Skunky I'm jealous!! I'd love to static line out of a C-47 just once, like they did in WW2. No free fall time for this kid yet.

Pretty cool, Skunkster! Great pic! Nice to see what you look like! Now, if I ever happen to run into you, I'll be able to recognise ya.

They used those at a Para school called Topcliffe, an old airforce base now used by the army.

When those chutes opened you could hear the "Thwack" sound, miles away.
They also used ex Para Jolly Green Giants type.

God Bless America.

Ever jumped static line (T10) from a Pilatus Porter Shawn ?. Lotsa fun grabbing hold of the underwing strut in the slipstream ...

Not from a Pilatus Porter, but did do a static line jump from a Cessna 180, and it was fun hanging on to the strut.

No my log shows C-17, C-130, C-141, CH-47 and CH-53 with T-10 C/D, MC1-1 and the German "Dial of Death" chute. Missed out on my Brit wings thanks to the lovely Scottish weather. I get paid to jump, not at the paying to do it stage.
