Desertion/Treason

With the recent news story of the American who joined al Qaeda, Adam Gadahn, do you guys have an opinion as to what should be done to punish folks who commit an act of treason? Or to soldiers, sailors and airmen who are charged with and found guilty of desertion? Anyone?

He is a Jew (well, West Coast-type so, the rest is not quite surprising), and I would like to rip him apart with my bare hands or at least put a bullet into his skull. When it comes to traitors, I think Red Army WWII "de facto" rules should apply, i.e. anyone caught in German uniform and is an Eastern volunteer is subject to on the spot execution.

With desertion, I think thorough investigation under the auspices of due process is a must before rendering any judgment.

Regards,

Sergey

Berkut, please don't hold back. Tell us what you really think. LOL

Of course, but assuming that the guilty party was given his or her due process and was found guilty...what then? BTW, I edited my initial post to add "and found guilty of".

And here we hit a brick wall because of practical considerations involving 100% volunteer army. Punish a deserter too harshly, recruitment takes a hit, punish too lightly and re-enrollment rates will go down. Honestly, I don't know.

Sergey

Re: Desertion/Treason

I see no sense in killing the man. Take away his passport, make him stateless. That's what we do over here after a person joines another country's army.
Wanting to kill him has the same ring to me as the rethoric of killing "non-believers". A bit too primal imho.

And deserters? Lock 'm up for quite some time. Executing them is such a waste of life. There certainly are ifs and buts, none lead to me accepting deserters to be executed.

Now, I will go hug another tree...

Can we try with real bullets now?

Re: Desertion/Treason

I think they should be made to slide (upright) down a giant (300 ft tall minimum) razor blade into a pool of alcohol while Hillary's cackle is being blasted at them thru giant loudspeakers....

(sorry to anyone whom I may have offended with my political reference)

Re: Desertion/Treason

Force the bastard to watch an endless succession of episodes of "The Jerry Springer Show". After a few weeks he'll probably kill himself.

Re: Desertion/Treason

For treason, execution is definitely in order. For desertion, doing time in the brig or prison.
