Re: Desertion/Treason

Sentencing a traitor to death is a state acting in self-defense against an individual or against another state...

See, I just don't understand how the death penalty is self-defense, given that the traitor has already been nullified as a threat (e.g., caught, tried and sentenced to life in prison without parole).

And there is little doubt that many (if not most) of the Founding Fathers would also disagree with your position. In the Act of April 30, 1790, the First United States Congress substantially restated the language of the constitutional provision (the treason clause) and, exercising its power to fix the penalty, decreed death. 1 Stat 112 (1790).

You are absolutely right. If the question is "Does United States law allow for traitors to be sentenced to death?" the answer is yes. If we take that as a given, and your original question about Adam Gadahn is something like "How severely should he be punished?" well, we agree: He is a traitor and should face the maximum legal penalty for traitors.

I'm with MoMo (figuratively, not literally): .

Now let's talk about the weather: After last weekend's much-needed rain (much of which I had to drive through, grumble grumble) and a "cold" spell here in SoCal (high in the low 60s -- brrr) a mild Santa Ana has returned. Best Homer Simpson impression: Santa Anas -- how I hate them. They're an ill wind that blows no one any good.

Re: Desertion/Treason

Dear " Death Guys ",

lighten up!

Why should I lower the standard of conduct when it comes to these offenses? Those of us responsible for soldiers lives and classified / secret information know the score when you break that trust. To commit these acts and then play victim is no excuse. Again, stop worrying about the why. And concentrate on the result of these actions.

Re: Desertion/Treason

If Skunky does happen to take a look, let us know what he sees!

I think that's like looking under an angel's robe: It's better not to know.

Now, you guys know that Skunky ( being part Scots....his grannie ) is entitled to wear a kilt anytime he wants to ! I just don't know if a Skunk tartan exists !

Isn't there a black-and-white striped tartan for skunks? You know: Erskine, Scott, MacFarlane, Skunk...

Re: Desertion/Treason

One other thought. Since we all see how those of us who have been in or are currently serving feel about it. And those who are more forgiving feel. Wouldn't it be great to hear from someone who has actually gone over the hill or betrayed thier country. I doubt the deserter would openly admit it, and well most traitors are still in jail. So I guess we'll never know.

Space Clown Monster

I sincerely hope this is a work of fiction; a really bad joke (tasteless as it may be)-this guy is bragging about some very shameful, dishonorable behavior...
